Meet Lindsey Proctor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Proctor.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My love for photography started when my 4-year-old was born. I would make these elaborate setups and borrow my husband’s iPhone because it had a better camera than mine. I would then edit them the best I could using apps. For Christmas in 2015, my husband bought me my first camera, a Nikon d3200. I remember researching lenses and decided to go with my 50! I still love that lens to this day. I downloaded Lightroom and started taking my son out every day. My husband soon after deployed, and I started offering sessions to pass the time, build my portfolio, and really learn the basics of photography. The rest is history; I haven’t put my camera down since. I have, however, upgraded all of my equipment. Photography is my outlet; it’s the one thing I do for myself. It sparks this creative fire in me like nothing I’ve ever felt before. When I had my first son, I dealt with severe postpartum depression and anxiety. Photography got me out of the house and lifted my spirits. I am obsessed with capturing people and all of the real love that surrounds them and their families.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a photographer. I specialize in families and couples. I have dabbled in birth, newborn, and landscape photography as well, but nothing inspires me more than capturing families and people in love. My inspiration comes from being a mother myself. I know how fast time goes, and how quickly our kids change. I absolutely love saving the little details and making sure mama’s are in the frames and not just the ones taking pictures. Also, I feel it’s so important to remember what starts your family, your love for your significant other. My husband is my best friend, so I adore doing couples photography and freezing time for my clients. I hope when people look at my art, they can feel the emotions that my clients did; they can feel the love and laughter. I pour my soul into my work, and I hope people feel all the feels by looking at it!

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I am honestly not sure if life is easier or harder for artists today. A lot of me leans towards easier. Because of things like social media, we have so many platforms to share our work with the world. However, it’s also like one big competition. I try not to compare my work to others, but it is so hard when there are so many of us. Things like SD Voyager are a huge support in encouraging artists. Any way for people to see our work and get to know us on a more personal level is so beneficial. I’ve also joined a lot of San Diego photography groups. Connecting with other creatives and supporting each other’s art is incredible.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I post a lot of my work on my Instagram, @lindseyjoyphotography. I also share a lot of my sneak peeks and information regarding sessions on my Facebook business page. Currently, my website is being redone, but that will make booking sessions a lot easier for my clients. Honestly, my biggest support comes from word of mouth. If you enjoy my photography, if it inspires you, pass my info along, or share it!
