Meet Julie Wynn, Realtor in Encinitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Wynn.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Julie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since a little kid, I always enjoyed looking through the home magazines, one of my favorite things to do was drive around the most expensive neighborhoods in Malibu and pick out my favorite homes with my mom. I knew from a little kid that one day, I would be involved in the real estate industry in one way or another.

I was a division one athlete in college, once I graduated college I was determined to find a work environment that reminded me of being an athlete. I wanted a place that I could continue to be challenged on a regular basis, a place I could push myself beyond anything that I thought was capable of. I wanted to work in a team environment where everyone is extremely works together to help accomplish a goal that seems so unreachable, yet with the people around you, anything is possible.

After college, I felt extremely lost, everything that I ever knew had come to an end. I graduated with a Business Marketing degree but had absolutely no idea what to do with it so I just decided to try and find a job in the sports industry doing whatever they would offer me at the time. I landed at the Oakland Raiders as a media relations assistant. I was ecstatic about this opportunity, what more could one want? Right out of college, I’m working most peoples dream jobs. My duties consisted of attending every practice that the players had and then organizing their interviews with the media for the day. Once that was over, we were the only department that was allowed to eat with the players so we would join them for an incredible buffet every day. A few months after the thrill of working with professional athletes wore off, I realized that being on the other side (business side) of the sports industry was not nearly as fun as being the athlete.

After the first season, I decided to move back to Southern California (my hometown) and create my real estate business. I knew this would be a perfect fit for me for many reasons. I am so passionate about where I live, I love helping others, every day brings new excitement and new opportunities. Buying or selling a home can be a very emotional process as it is one of the biggest transactions of one’s life. I thrive on being able to guide people through this process and make it as fun and easy as possible!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting your own business always comes with struggles along the way, that is how you grow and become successful. My first year in the business I was so caught up in what company I was going to hang my license with because I was getting pulled in so many different directions and each day would get a call from a recruiter with a different company. I was so distracted by all of these different opportunities that I wasn’t able to focus on me and my business. My second year, I was presented with a once in a lifetime opportunity and I spent all my time and energy with one buyer that I created no space to focus on anything else. This client ended up not even buying in the area and because I spent the whole year focusing on them, I was left with nothing at the end of it. I found out really fast that was going to eat away at my energy and my business. The lesson that I learned, in this case, was to never throw all your eggs in one basket. Finally my third year, after all my fails and distractions that got in the way of me focusing on my business I finished as a Top Producer in my company and sold the second most expensive home in Encinitas that year.

Julie – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am part of a team (Kohler House Real Estate) and we specialize in North county San Diego. The other two girls on my team are Kelly Kohler and Samantha Gleaton. I think that having a team makes our company really unique and special because no matter what you will always have someone there to assist with your clients’ needs. Real Estate can be tricky at times because everything happens so fast and you have to be available at certain times in order to make things happen. What sets us apart from others is we really do go above and beyond in everything we do in terms of marketing. We make your goal our goal and it is equally as important to us. We create lifestyle videos, sponsor sporting events, send handwritten letters with a brochure to top financial advisors across the state and much more. We will do EVERYTHING we can to get your home in front of as many people as possible and we continue to do stuff every week until the home sells. We continue to think outside the box and think of creative and unique ways to be different and add value to all of our clients.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is being happy in what you do and adding value to others lives. I believe that we were all put on this earth for a reason and I feel most successful when I am helping others. I think that you have become successful when other people in your industry are looking to you for advice. I feel most successful when I have a creative idea to do things differently than the norm and it works.
