Meet Wendi Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendi Williams.

Wendi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I fell in love with photography while in high school. I attended school just a little north of San Diego County in Temecula, Ca. I spent a good time in San Diego all throughout my 20s. Constantly exploring new places to shoot, hike, and spend time with loved ones. I moved to North County in my late 20s shortly after the loss of my 1st husband. His ashes were spread right outside Point Loma. San Diego felt like home and a way to be close to him. I started working more once I officially moved there doing both photography and design. After a few years in Carlsbad, I moved further south to North Park and fell even more in love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Does anyone ever have a smooth ride? HELL NO. I still struggle. Between photography, being a licensed barber, and being a mom, time is a rare commodity. I try my best to utilize as much free time as I can while still focusing on my family life. A new favorite pass time I have is taking my daughter with me to both explore and shoot. she’s an amazing assistant.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have been a photographer for over 12 years now. I don’t like to think that I “specialize” in one particular type of photographer. I love photojournalism. I love creative look books for online shops. I shoot a lot of imitate family style photography. I basically love it all.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood wasn’t much to write home about. I grew up between LA and Orange County and loved chasing around the local skateboard kids with my mom’s giant 90s video camera on my shoulder.
