Today we’d like to introduce you to Castell J.R. Barnes.
Castell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In April of 1989, I’d became the son of a Jamaican immigrant and a Cuban-American. With the release of my new book, ‘SLOTH 30: The Makings of An Early Bird, Night Owl,’ I’m now a 3x Author, Speaker, and Entrepreneur. I’ve had the pleasure to do work in 18 US states and 7 different countries throughout the world. But it doesn’t start there. As one of ten children, I had to not only be tough growing up, but I learned the importance of family and unity at a young age. Throughout my elementary and high school years, I was a decent student, so I got accepted into college thinking I was going to be a Financier; that didn’t pan out. During college, I had realized that I wanted to understand business from a holistic standpoint, not just from one department. I ended up changing my major twice: from Finance to Operations Management, then finally to Entrepreneurship. It was the best decision that I had made.
I’ve always had this feeling and vision to found, lead, and grow something that I can call my own. I was working in Retail, and after I had graduated from college, I coincidently entered the Finance industry. For almost five years, I perfected the sales experience I had learned from being in Retail and had grown to understand how business money had truly worked. Companies allocated funds to businesses that they felt can solve the problem that they had. It was a simple concept that led me to start my first incorporated business, CJRB Inspirations. It was an Image Consulting company that I built for three years and eventually merged into our current management consultancy, GRTR Management.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As mentioned before, CJRB Inspirations was my first incorporated business. I had two businesses before that and being that they weren’t LLCs or Corporations, I had to learn the hard way when it came to landing business. Clients wanted businesses that were either LLCs, Corps., or Partnerships. We weren’t either and had to close down the businesses. I wasn’t always a great public speaker too. I had to build up confidence as a young teen and bomb a few times on stage to get to where I am now. With team building, I use to have a big ego as well. I quickly had to realize that just like your personal life, when you are in business, you have to be of great service to others and know that your mission is bigger than one person. Once I made the shifts in both my mentality and actions, I started to see inclines in a lot of areas in my life.

GRTR Management is a management consulting agency that focuses on securing branding, speaking, and investing partnerships. Our specialties include content creation, digital marketing, image consulting, lifestyle photography, keynote speeches, educational workshops, and investment alliances around real estate, publishing, and startups. As the Co-Founder, I take care of all of our client acquisitions and digital marketing efforts, which has landed us over 40 business clients to-date. Our branding and speaking services tend to lead the pack for the recognition we’ve been receiving. We have done work with LinkedIn, The Brooklyn Nets and Secret Deodorant, just to name a few. It is clear that what sets us apart is our ability to provide ‘diverse, transparent, and relatable insights and results’ to our clients. It stands at the core of not only our operations but who we are as a complete team.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
After a 10-year focus on GRTR Management, I look to write books #4 and #5. This would include growing our team, maximizing our global reach and service packages. We also want to fund educational and political strides towards a better world. GRTR Management will be a household name in the years to come!
