Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Cedillo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the creator of Real Women. I want to share my background and the purpose behind this group.
The group began flourishing when I was going through a rough season in my life. I thought to myself, “There’s is no better way to heal myself then to have women heal together.” I then began to open my home to women. We discussed different topics that we women face, shared stories and grew together. Our first topic was, “healing your wounds”. When my vision started back in 2013, I had named the group, ”Real Women, Real Talk, Real problems.” But I later on shortened it to Real Women.
The ladies that started with me became my family. I am very grateful to each and one of them for believing in my vision, and my dreams. We were all from different backgrounds, lifestyles, and religions but that is what made it beautiful and real. My heart has always desired to help and empower and believe in women. I honestly think this is my calling, to empower women to go forward regardless of their past. I rebirthed this vision of mine by opening up my group to the community by having monthly sisterhood circle events. My purpose is to inspire women to heal together and to believe that we are not victims but survivors.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, we learn that life is not easy and there’s always bumps on the road. In order to inspire other women, I had to inspire myself and believe in who I was. During this journey at one point, I had to step down and heal some wounds I had which Included depression and anxiety. I encourage women out there that if you have gone through any traumatic experience that it is okay to seek professional help. I also encourage you to surround yourself with women who empower you and lift you up throughout your journey.
We’d love to hear more about Real Women.
Real Women is an empowerment group. We offer monthly sessions which we like to call “Real Women Sisterhood Circles.” In our sessions, we speak out on topics that we women go through on a daily and invite women speakers from our community to bring a different perspective on these types of issues. We provide a safe space for women to share their own stories.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mother has been my foundation in my life and has taught me to look at life through an optimistic lens despite hard times. She is such a strong woman and I’ve learned so much from her. There has been many women that have crossed my path that have gone through so much and are still standing tall. These are the women that inspire me on a daily.
