Meet Survi Nathany of Pashn by Survi in North San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Survi Nathany.

Survi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved to San Diego from the culturally rich and diverse country of Nepal. I completed a course in textile print design from one of the premier institutes in India. After years of hard work and learning, I secured myself a position as a print designer. I excelled in the field and established myself as a graphic print designer and an artist.

In the back of my mind, I always wanted to design something unique and market it under my own brand, leading to the development of my signature label Pashn by Survi. Pashn by Survi brings you beautiful handcrafted scarves, as well as semi-precious and fashion jewelry inspired by the Indian and Nepalese culture. I love to work with color, form, and texture on paper, digital media, and textiles.

To me, design is a language, just like music. My work reflects my associations, experiences, and my journey exploring color, print, and art. I get inspired by the rich culture of India and Nepal, where I belong to and where I spent most of my life and would like to share with the rest of the world through my designs. It is my pleasure to not only work towards my passion but also help the talented artisans from Nepal to channel their talent and skills in the most productive way and also earn them a living.

Has it been a smooth road?
Every small business faces a lot of obstacles and challenges in their beginning years. I was motivated to work towards my passion, but I also faced a lot of failures initially, I had no knowledge of the process, but I learned from my own errors and kept moving forward without stopping. Persistence and positive thinking became the key to success. I did a lot of events to interact with people one on one to educate them about my products and also the process of making them which really helped me understand my customer base and their taste and preferences and based on that I worked with the craftsman to create products which were acceptable.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pashn by Survi – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The art of handcrafting and these artisans form the core of our label. Pashn by Survi as a brand believe in fair practice. We ensure that our craftsmen are fairly paid and well taken care of. Nepal is home to entire communities of skilled artisans and craftsmen who are working from generations, creating beautiful woven pashminas and artifacts. We through our work, help support these communities who create these beautiful pieces! Every piece our craftsman create is exceptionally unique and extraordinary with a dash of culture embedded in it combined with a contemporary outlook which definitely sets us apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
San Diego is the most culturally diverse city. We have people all over the world here which gives a great opportunity to learn about each other and the practices, and that makes everyone accept each other much easily and this really helped me too because I moved to San Diego in 2011 leaving my parents behind knowing nothing about this entirely new city and country but I was surprised by the love and acceptance I received here which definitely helped me start my own venture without any second thoughts. Its been a great journey so far.
