Today we’d like to introduce you to Adetutu Olatawura.
Adetutu, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a fashion blogger who started blogging in college in Ohio and once I became a wife and mother, I switched my blogging style style to Lifestyle Blogger. Through this, I started my documentary series where I share experiences of diverse individuals and groups.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a hard journey, I gave up a few times but I always found my way back because I truly love sharing my experiences with others. Blogging is therapeutic for me, I write my thoughts down and at that moment, I set myself free.
My advice to other women who would like to blog is to dive in. You have nothing to lose but a whole wealth of knowledge to gain. Everything you set your mind to is an opportunity to learn. Blogging can teach you time management, if you are juggling 9-5, being a daughter, wife, mother, sister, etc and then you add blogging to that, you’ve got to prioritize your time well. It can teach you business management, so many people turn blogging into their full-time job. It can teach you so many things so go ahead and dive into it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Life Happened story. Tell us more about the business.
I consider myself a blogger but blogging led me to what I truly love the most which is sharing stories. I realized that I wanted to share life experiences of diverse individuals and groups, which is why I started my online documentary series called Life Happened. With this, I interview people who have stories to tell through videography. This sets me apart from other bloggers because I started my blog telling my story and it led me to the desire to give others the platform to tell their stories. What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I would say, in blogging females are ahead of the game. When we switch the gear to filmmaking, I would have to say the biggest barriers are opportunity and information. Many of us know what we want to do but sometimes we do not know-how. A lot of us are just figuring it out as we go which can cause one to quit. This is why mentorship is so important. Having someone to help guide you is sometimes a necessity. However, the ratio of female leaders to female novice in most industries are large.
