Life and Work with Ana Pulido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Pulido.

Ana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My interest in hair started when I was in high school, I had a cousin come from Guadalajara, she gave me a haircut, listening to her and seeing how passionate she was about it inspired me!!! So, I started looking into it and started straight out of high school. When I first started doing hair, I started at a haircutting chain and stayed there for a long time, I loved the experience they gave me structure. Thought me about customer service, I got as far as training the new stylist. But I always wondered how it would be if I went on my own so after 13 years, I did it and I have loved every minute of it!!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, I stayed working for a company because of the fear of not making it. I have two daughters that depend on me so the what if’s would always stop me, but I mean if I want to teach them to be brave, I have to be brave my self… this industry is really competitive but as long as you keep pushing your self, you will be ok… my advice is work hard, promote your self, always carry business cards, educate your self, don’t stop learning, be passionate, and don’t give up.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize more in haircuts, color and in making people happy with their hair. I am most proud of the look in my client’s face after I give them the mirror to look at the finished product, my goal is to make any person that sits in my chair walk out feeling good about themselves. I went to a class a long time ago and one of the educators mention something that stuck to my head like glue, he said I’m not better and just different and well, that’s me, I’m no better than any other stylist, I’m different, I’m me.

Who have you been inspired by?
The woman that has inspired me has been my mom, she is a strong and determined person, once she says something that there’s no turning back, and as a mom, she has been there for my two sisters, my self and now, even with my daughters, every step of the way, encouraging us to keep going believing in us… I know this will sound weird but I’m inspired by the person I’ve become. In the past few years, I used to be that girl that was always looking for the approval of somebody, didn’t believe in my self, my divorce made realize what I was capable of achieving on my own and that I’m the only one that can decide if I learn from the experiences and keep going or if I let it affect me and fell sorry for myself.
