Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Acevedo.
Diana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey started a few years after I graduated from college, as I soon realized I was not happy with my corporate job and I wanted to spend more time with my daughter who was three years old at the time. I started venturing into different areas such as financial planning at a multi-level marketing company and also joined a self-development business coaching program where I started doing e-commerce. What I later realized is that I was going with the trends instead of doing something I truly enjoyed, but it was through trial and error that I was able to realize that chasing money was not going to fulfill me. I took some time off and went back to the corporate world and at the same time worked on my mindset and spiritual wellness. I then had my second daughter and I knew I had to make a choice as my desire was to stay at home with my baby. While on maternity leave, I was intentional about starting a business but this time one that I would enjoy and that is when Luxan Balloon Bar was created. Luxan is the combination of my daughter’s names Luna and Alexa as they are my why and fuel behind the business. They are my daily reminder of why I have to be courageous and battle with the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. My journey is still unfolding but I am very optimistic about the future. I have a soft spot for event planning and event decor hence, I enjoy this business it allows me to transform events or special occasions. Additionally, it is a creative outlet where I detach from the day to day routine to solely focus on what I am creating for my client. Luxan Balloon Bar was created to make my client’s life easier the day of their event and to “wow” their guests with a one of a kind design.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My entrepreneurial journey has not been as smooth as I initially imagined it would be however I have learned so much about myself in the process. The biggest struggle for myself has been discipline and self-sabotage which are both related to mindset. On good days, I feel motivated and invincible, then the next day I’ll wake up feeling defeated and this inner dialogue starts where I start thinking of all the reasons why I won’t be successful. My biggest advice for women who are considering to start a business is to just start and not wait “for the right time” I feel like I was stuck in that stage for more than I should have. The perfect time will never come as we naturally will always come up with an excuse for not following our dreams or starting that business. Our most valuable asset is to shift our mindset, empower ourselves with knowledge, and to be resilient as this journey will challenge us in ways we do not expect.
Please tell us about Luxan Balloon Bar.
I am in the event decor industry and I specialize in balloon decorations. When I started Luxan Balloon Bar, my goal was to set myself apart by providing the most modern, luxe, and creative balloon decor and arrangements. I did not want to offer the traditional decor that can be found anywhere else. Luxan is known most for its balloon bouquets which are personalized arrangements that are 5 to 7 ft tall. I can say there is nothing like it in San Diego clients love them as these can be personalized in different ways from the colors, the occasion, what the arrangement says, etc. I am proud that Luxan Balloon Bar focuses on customer service and exceeding customers’ expectations. Additionally, we are brewing ideas for charitable projects in the near future as I believe giving back to the community is the best way to express gratitude.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The most important piece of advice would be to have faith and believe in yourself. We all have what it takes to be successful if we have a desire in our heart all the qualities and tools we need have already been deposited in us its a matter of using them. The goal is to take it day by day and not get overwhelmed. Every day we have the choice to become a better version of ourselves, do not give up before starting.
