Conversations with the Inspiring Stevy Palar Montgomery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stevy Palar Montgomery.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Spokane, Washington and moved down to San Diego when I was 21 years of age. I am now 29, and love San Diego! I have been active my whole life playing sports growing up but what really got me into fitness was really when I moved down to SD. Everyone was so fit and always active and I loved that about it here. I got an opportunity to be on a show when I was 23 years old called 72 Hours on TNT. When training to be on this adventure show was what truly jump-started my fitness passion. I learned so much about fitness and nutrition and became more active over time. I actually won the show, winning a total of $100,000! Was such an amazing experience for me and was truly blessed to have that opportunity.

After the show, I hit a plateau with my fitness journey, looking for new solutions I found out how important nutrition was for weight loss and truly becoming your healthiest self. With this is where I found my true passion. I then began school to become a nutritionist and recently graduated from SDSU with my bachelor in Food and Nutrition. My passion for health and fitness has developed over the years, I love to train women and have had postpartum clients I absolutely adore. I have a soft spot for helping women become the healthiest and happiest version of themselves. I worked at RockBox Fitness in pacific Beach and love group training. I have learned over the years how important it is to motivate people to get in the gym and simply Move Their Bodies! So, to be able to be on a platform where I am encouraging people to become more active and helping them create new, positive habits into their lifestyle is such an amazing experience. I plan to create my own online personal training to reach people out of grasp, who don’t live in the area where I live. Many of my followers are located around the US in many different states to be able to motivate not only the men and women in person but to be able to have access to anyone everyone and encourage them is a dream of mine. I am truly honored to be in the position I am in and excited about what the future holds.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, there are always obstacles. My fitness journey alone has been over the span of the last seven years, getting to know my own body and what works and doesn’t work for me. It a process, not an overnight fix. But that’s what’s beautiful, is it takes time. Something that takes time to mold and create is way more admirable than a quick fix any day in my opinion. So, I would just encourage people to know that anyone can do it, anyone can start wherever they are in their fitness journey. My biggest obstacle has been myself and my own self-doubt and insecurities. We are our own biggest enemy at times if we allow our minds to take over. I have to tell myself all the time that I am my own competition and that comparison is truly the thief of joy. Don’t compare yourself to others but yet encourage and uplift each other. I would also say that you have to remember everyone started somewhere, and you can’t compare your starting point to other persons 2, 3 or 7-year journey. Give yourself grace, and understanding and know that through consistency and discipline you will get there. But you have to put in the work! One big lesson is to always be open to learning new things and open to growth. This industry is constantly changing and evolving and there’s so much information to know, but don’t allow that to hinder you. Take one step at a time, as long as your taking steps forward, you are on the right path!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
So, I am a personal trainer and just recently graduate with my Bachelor’s degree from SDSU in Foods and Nutrition. Nutrition and fitness truly play hand in hand. I train women, some postpartum which I absolutely love, and group trainings both men and women. One thing I always want my clients to know is proper form, and to learn something new. If I’m encouraging you and motivate you to push harder and try new things than I am happy. I huge on mindset, creating a winning mindset for yourself is so important when training people. The moment you tell yourself you can’t, you won’t be able to do it. I am in the process of starting my online personal training business. This is something I am super excited about, to be able to reach and motivate people I normally wouldn’t be able to is a dream.

To be honest, something I am truly proud of is to hear people’s experiences after training with me. I love it when my clients leave feeling stronger than when they came in. Helping women feel more confident in the gym or just in their everyday life is something I am very proud of. I love to be able to teach women how to properly perform workouts so they can then go in there feeling fearless!

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I absolutely love listening to Podcasts. Anything nutrition-related and love learning about mental health. The Joe Rogan Experience is great, they have some interesting guests on that I enjoy listening to. I enjoy waking up to any motivational speaker, I love Brene Brown, she’s amazing. I’m always looking for new healthy recipes online, FitMenCook is another great person to follow for recipes. Other than that, I listen to a lot of music to get me through the day, gotta love music!
