Life and Work with Kaelyn Arballo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaelyn Arballo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaelyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After high school, I wasn’t exactly sure what I really wanted to do. I thought maybe go straight into beauty school. It was something I could relate to and find myself more interested in doing but my parents had suggested taking a couple of community college courses to see if maybe there was something else that I could see myself doing. After changing my major multiple times, I realized I wasn’t in the right place and needed to figure out what I wanted to do. I quickly said I’m going for it, I’m doing beauty school. I graduated from beauty school in May 2014 and in June, I had my license. I was in search of the perfect salon. After assisting a little, doing behind the counter at Nordstrom working for Lancome and a couple blow dry bars later, I found a place I could do hair and makeup. It was great. I spent the first part of my career there learning how to actually do blowouts and perfecting styles.

Around this time, I had met my boyfriend who is from Kansas City and was looking to return back to the Midwest for a bit. So, we packed up things and moved. This California girl was in a new place with a major shock. I was learning how to start over. Be on my own. Live with a boy. It was all new to me. Luckily he stuck around and continues to be my biggest support. I interviewed at a couple of salons and I remember in one interview they asked where I saw myself in 5 years and I said I really want to perfect my work to get into weddings. Well, I ended up finding a blow-dry bar and continued to work on styling skills.

Now, fast forward about three years and we returned to California, had a baby girl and quickly things were back into where my career was going to take me now with all these life changes. Having my daughter really pushed me to figure out what I could do in order to fulfill myself and my family. This was it, the time I had to really focus. My family was there to support me and really push me to start my own social media page and from then on, it’s been a crazy journey!

Within the first year, I was connecting with local vendors and meeting so many new clients. I’ve been at this hair game for almost six years now and it’s been amazing. I am where I want to be. I find myself learning something new all the time and meeting so many great souls along the way.

Has it been a smooth road?
To have a smooth road means you never are really learning. It’s been a road full of detours and bumps but it’s gotten me to where I am and for that, I am super grateful.

I’ve been through cross country moves, a baby and starting over again. There have been some major obstacles but surrounding yourself with the support and encouragement can really motivate you to find more.

For anyone just starting out I know the fear that lingers. It’s the unknown of what’s to come but when you have the confidence in yourself and what you do that is what will push you to just do your thing. Embrace your talents. And forever keep learning, there is always something new for you to learn.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
Social media has been such a game changer. From profiles from other stylists to connecting with local stylists, it’s all about the community. You can always find a tutorial somewhere. A lot of times, I’ll look to Pinterest for inspiration or YouTube for videos. The internet has so many useful tools to get yourself out there and learn!
