Meet Brent Barragan of Jirafa in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Barragan.

Brent, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
About two years ago, I use to stunt ride motorcycles before I got into music. When I found out, I was having a baby, I decided to give up my motorcycle riding and find a new hobby. I quickly found music to be the answer I was looking for. I then went all in and started pursuing the career and spent countless hours training and learning the craft. approximately a year into my DJ career, I found my mentor/great friend yodah (Antonio A.) who brought me into his team (global bpm) and really showed me everything I know today for both DJing and producing. I am very thankful for him cause I have grown a lot both career and as a person. I have now DJ in multiple states and also out of the country.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, music is both mentally and physically tiring. There’s a lot of hours we spend collecting music and prepping songs.

Getting into the scene as a club artist sometimes takes DJs 2-5 years just to get into the scene from the bedroom which I was blessed to get in super fast by spending countless hours networking and going out.

Music production is extremely hard to learn and has taken me countless hours and a year to get to where I’m at today and I still have a long way to go. Music production is probably the hardest thing for a growing artist who is looking to make it in the electronic world.

Please tell us about your work.
Jirafa
DJ and producer.
I specialize in all genres of music which is typically called open format(hip hop/reggaeton/EDM/rock/trap).
I’m known for rocking the crowd, creating a party, and being super tall.
I’m most proud of my growth in the amount of time I’ve been in the industry and the steps we’re making to go a lot farther in the future.
The thing that sets me apart from other DJs is my skills on the deck/crowd control/song selections and production of music.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Success is when preparation meets opportunity.

The way I feel the most successful is when I see the smiles on the faces on the dance floor of people enjoying the music I make/play.
