Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Tribble.
Sam, before we jump into specific questions about your art, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was an elite level gymnast and collegiate All American. I also was. MVP at UC Davis and team Captain of CSUF collegiate gymnastics team. I’ve been inducted into Sacramento’s Hall of Fame for outstanding athletes. I first started competitive sports in high school. I made the varsity track team my freshman year at Royal Oak High School and as a Jr. nominated Team Captain. During my senior year I turned my full attention to competitive gymnastics and as a result, received a full scholarship at CSUF.
After college, I opened a Gymnastics facility, Giants Gymnastics. After 16 years I closed the doors and began Performing arts. I’m focused primarily on a discipline called Cyr wheel, which I’ve performed in all corners of the United States including New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam, Italy and more. I continue to perform today and train other artist and beginner to elite level athletes in a wide range of disciplines. My coaching style has been popularized by the Youtube channel: Strength Project, which I am the premier instructor. Strength Project has a fan base of over six million subscribers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H13uIl0oxLM
I’ve also been featured on channels such as LAmuscle.tv:https://www.lamuscle.com/lamuscletv/fitness-training-videos/spinnovate-me-1 I currently tour the US with my performing arts troupe Spinnovation and the Strength Project Team hosting workshops for Sports mental training, body balancing, calisthenics and certification coursed for the art of Cyr (CyrCertification.com).
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been far from a smooth road but the journey has always proven to pay off in more ways than financial. Just this year my custom Strength Project truck was stolen which contained all of my business and performing arts equipment. This is the vehicle I tour with to teach at festivals, host workshops and create art installation around the USA. It was a devastating financial and business loss. After a month I had given up on its return and most of the specialized equipment it contained. Then one day, which just happened to be on my birthday, the San Diego police department called to tell me, they had located my vehicle! The vehicle was a mess! Not running and all my possession stolen.. except my inventory of Cyr wheels which were all intact!.
When fans and friends learned of its return and condition they raised over $4,000 to enable me to restore it to its current touring condition. It’s times like this that make us feel grateful for what we do and the impact we have on each other’s lives.
The Strength Project truck is scheduled to tour at all the 2020 Fit EXPOs in California. LA, San Jose, Anaheim and our very own San Diego. We will be promoting health and fitness by performing and teaching. So if you’re in the area come to take a picture with us in front of the Strength Project truck, see our show and meet the crew!
Please tell us about your art.
I am a performing artist, gymnastics and calisthenics instructor. I also manufacture specialized performance apparatus called the Cyr wheel, Traveling rings and custom handstand canes.
I was the first person to manufacture Cyr wheels here in the US. Our products are set aside from the rest in two areas. First, quality engineering. Each wheel is made one at a time to the client’s specifications. Second, our standard for customer support. I teach, train and perform in my product and make myself available to all my client’s needs from Cyr maintenance to training tips anytime, no matter where they are in the world.
I’ve been teaching gymnastics and training beginner to elite athletes for over 35 years. I’ve had the opportunity to train under the best Sports Mental trainer in the world (Kenneth Ravissa) while attending CSUF. I continue my studies to pass this often neglected but the paramount foundation, of sports mental training, on to my clients.
I think the unique aspect of personal training with me is my ability to bridge gaps. I teach my students, to not just work smart but help them embrace their fitness journey by identifying stepping stones of progress which are often discarded in the mad rush to succeed. People have come to me from Russia, Kuwait, New Zealand, Switzerland, India, South Korea and more.
As a personal coach and performing artist, I’m most proud of the continued positive feedback from clients I work with to the fans who follow our Youtube Strength Project channel. There is no greater feeling than knowing you have impacted somebody’s life for the better.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The qualities and characteristics which I feel have to lead to the most success are simple. I enjoying what I do. I’m invested in the products we build and the long term success of clients who buy products, choose to work with us as individuals or companies. Selling a product online can be a faceless, impersonal transaction but giving consumers an open ended opportunity to become integrated into a community which they just invested their hard earned dollar is sustenance beyond their purchase price. Getting to know clients on a personal level is truly what makes selling, teaching and performing a worthy endeavor.
