Meet Vanessa “Nessy” Quarantello of No Greater Love in North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa “Nessy” Quarantello.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Vanessa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a La Jolla native and I founded No Greater Love, a holistic healing arts practice. It is a gift to offer Reiki, Breathwork Meditation (Pranayama) and Sound Healing to support all people to realize their full potential and integrate it into reality.

I am a trauma survivor and am on my healing journey so I truly align with these ancient practices as they have supported the incredible change in my life. My Grandmother Lillian showed me how important self-care and healing are. She’d say to me “I have No Greater Love than I do for our family” so that inspired the name and ethos of my practice. She was a self-made estate sale entrepreneur, antique appraiser, and my guiding light, moral compass, and inspiration for questioning the conventional and appreciating the arts.

When I began to look inside to begin healing, things were changing in me, some close relationships felt toxic and I needed to release my emotional wounds and wanted to help others. But it was hard to synthesize that and share it with others. I would panic about it, try to discuss it with flummoxed friends and get both all the feels and frustrations figuring out how to move forward.

I was living a stressed out NYC city dweller life and so sensitive to judgments and the need for validation. In my personal, professional and romantic lives I was prone to unhealthy giving and overcompensating while yearning to receive more recognition. I was imprisoning myself with bulls*t and didn’t impose boundaries or equal exchange. Then in 2014, I started to trust in breathwork meditation. I also did some yoga teacher training in 2016.

I honestly hated it at first, not because of its alternative healing nature (I have always identified as a “Cali hippie-type”) but because of the group screaming and release- it was LOUD and frightening. But as I kept returning to it I knew this was my path and way out of self-constructed blocks. I felt the release occur and the color return to my whole being after each breathwork session. It was a start on a winding path…

I eventually left NYC, my family and career on Wall Street and headed west. As a native San Diegan, I knew this was the right call. But I didn’t know what lay ahead was two years of what felt like internal and external meandering. Trying out cities like LA and Seattle and even the remote oceanfront jungle of Matapalo, Costa Rica with my partner at the time who is an inspiring surfer and ecologist. But I was still fighting a war with my essential self and using the inappropriate weapons of external distractions – it was h*ll. And I still do this but now with the awareness, I gain from breathwork that empowers me each moment.

For me, there wasn’t an exact “this is it” moment but its been natural like a rising tide. This path led me “home” to where I am now. I feel my offerings are important to society because they support people to self-heal by releasing energy blocks through meditative states. I want to be clear that healing is not a linear or simple solution or “fix” but the wakefulness to a spectrum of emotions, memories, and paths that are the way to freedom and a return to home. Showing people how to get back home and rediscover themselves as more creative, less emotionally addictive and awakened is my dharma. I’ve only just begun and I hope to be a conduit for all people to feel No Greater Love for themselves and their journeys by realizing their connected authenticity, gratitude, and resilience. “BE GREAT + SPREAD LOVE”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Similar to healing, starting a new business in a new industry has had its twists and turns. My inner circle is generally supportive but some people just don’t “get it”. I am still learning not to take that personally so its a struggle at times. But my perseverance and love for holding space really keep me focused. Helping people understand what breathwork and Reiki are is very challenging at first but once someone trusts it they get very honest and see positive results and welcome healing into their lives. It’s a beautiful exchange to support people then watch them evolve into their true selves.

Please tell us about your work.
No Greater Love specializes in Reiki, Breathwork Meditation and Sound Healing to dissolve energy blocks and promote a balance between mind, body, and spirit. I support a wide range of people from corporate professionals, entrepreneurs, and angst teenagers to serious trauma survivors. It is important to me to make healing accessible to EVERYONE, not just those that have high levels of disposable income.

I create personalized experiences for individuals, groups, retreats, and conferences. It’s so challenging yet important work! I love to empower all people on their expeditions to release limiting beliefs, emotional wounds, traumatic experiences, and negative conditioning with science evidenced modalities to encourage healing.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I love to reminisce about spending time at La Jolla Shores with my Dad. He passed away in 2010 so it holds a very special place in my whole being.
