Life and Work with Aileen Magana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aileen Magana.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a child, I would always love playing pretend and I would always play a reporter (I am not a reporter) I would get my pretend camera and capture “moments”, now as an adult I capture moments. Either someone posing with their favorite garment or a very memorable day. I take pictures as a hobby not full time but the fact that with no idea how a camera worked I picked one up and learned and aged with this camera. I not only learned how a camera works but how you can capture a moment that can last a lifetime.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Comparing yourself or fear of comparison is always a strong influence on creating doubt within yourself. I always share to just go out there and capture whatever is in your heart, let your intuition capture and tell the story and believe in yourself. Someone out there is appreciating, watching, receiving, learning and being inspired by you. You will come across challenges but as long as you act with a good heart and selflessness you can do, make whatever you put in your heart and mind.

Please tell us about your work.
I work for Samsung as a logistics coordinator, I have a regular 8-5 job like the rest of Americans however having a hobby or side job on doing what you love makes your boring Job look like the hobby.

As a visual storyteller, I’m proud to capture a person’s best angle. To make them feel and look beautiful. My goal when I photograph anybody is to make them find their inner beauty and capture their true colors.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
VSCO X, Lightroom, Photoshop, Inshot, Videoshop (anything Adobe) I highly recommend. Again it’s not what you use but how you are using it to tell your story.
