Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Trinh.
Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I used to be extremely indecisive, I held back from speaking up for myself, and I always gave from an empty cup. A great friend/mentor of mine introduced me to a personal development event where the onstage speaker used a technique called NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) to help us reprogram our thinking process to help us achieve what we want in life, rather than unconsciously hold us back.
This got me very intrigued. I immediately became interested in learning more. I joined an NLP Mastermind and became certified as a master practitioner from a renowned NLP trainer. Through the learnings, I found one technique/concept very powerful and has helped me tremendously when I needed it. It’s a technique called ‘anchoring’ where you anchor in a positive emotion to something—it could be a specific song, touching the inside of your wrist, watching a video of your child, whatever it may be—we called it a “resource anchor.” The entire concept is that you will associate your “resource anchor” to a positive emotion such as confidence, and when you need it most, you will use it to give you a confident feeling.
I LOVE jewelry, and I thought, how amazing would it be if I could simplify this for others that don’t care to learn about NLP? I would use the technique on a beautiful, feminine jewelry piece and give people a shortcut to gaining a boost of confidence when they need it most, and that was how Crowned came to life.
The goal of each collection is to serve as an empowerment piece for you to put on when you feel like there are days where perhaps you could use a boost of self-love or confidence. Just put on your Crowned piece, close your eyes, and remember what you’re worth because Women In Power Wear Crowned.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For so many other things in life, the road has been extremely rocky. For Crowned, it’s been a decently smooth road. And this is where I want to say: when you follow your heart and finally take the leap of faith that you’ve been feeling called to do (but you’re afraid to do so), that’s when everything flows, and you know you’re in the right place.
The biggest struggle I had with Crowned was trying to create a “perfect” pouch for the jewelry piece. I began to lose sight of what was most important—the actual jewelry—and spent way too much money and time creating jewelry pouch samples when in the end, I decided to go with a simple satin pouch, and everyone loves it.
Perfectionism can be your enemy or your friend. For the jewelry pouches, it was my enemy; I didn’t need a perfect pouch. I needed to make a perfect jewelry piece and perfect messaging for what my mission is with launching this brand.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Crowned – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Crowned was created for the woman who has a vision in her mind of what she wants, and then goes after it. I created these jewelry pieces to appreciate the ambitious woman because they are worth the recognition and value. I didn’t want to be just another jewelry line. I wanted my pieces to have meaning to them. I want it to be an extremely meaningful gift from one powerful woman to another, or just an incredible act of self-love to purchase one for yourself to remind yourself of what you can do.
Lastly, Crowned jewelry isn’t created from cheap materials because I know that Queens have higher standards than that. So I made sure to seek out the highest quality manufacturers to create luxurious 14k gold plated pieces that scream, “THIS WOMAN IS GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL!”
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I found my mentor by reaching out and asking for advice. I think not being afraid to ask for help is a very courageous thing to do. However, the way to keep your mentor is to take action on every advice they give you, otherwise you’re wasting their time. They took valuable time out of their day to provide you with free advice, the least you can do is make their time worth it by doing what they offered and showing them how you’ve improved because of their help.
