Meet Trailblazer Joelene Larson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joelene Larson.

Joelene, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had always dreamt of owning a clothing boutique but that seemed so far fetched… With being a one-income household for the past 12 years and four kids in private school, it really didn’t seem possible. One day my (very supportive) husband said: “let’s do it!” I was unsure about how we’d make it work but he said: “why do we let money determine whether or not we follow our dreams?”

So we decided to take the leap. We started with the name. POPPY because we are based in the beautiful San Diego and that happens to be the state flower and STITCH for clothing and because it kinda flowed. I had very little knowledge of what exactly the rest would entail but we went for it. We opened our online boutique in December 2018 and have been learning and growing with our business. I am beyond thankful that my husband pushed me to move forward. It may not be the brick and mortar that I had dreamt of but it is a start.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In all honesty, my husband is the man behind the scenes. He made the business plan, did the financial side, built the website even started the blog. (ya I’m pretty lucky.) I built and manage the social media accounts, communicate with vendors and work with influencers to help make a name for ourselves. The boutique industry is a very saturated and competitive market so it is imperative to set yourself apart.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Poppy & Stitch Boutique – what should we know?
Poppy & Stitch is an online women’s boutique where we strive to provide the latest fashions for you to look and feel your best! Each individual piece is hand-selected by myself to ensure that it reflects my own personal style.

Proverbs 31:25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she laughs without fear of the future.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
I am inspired by the women around me who set their goals high and reach them. There are so many opportunities, I think you can do anything that you set your mind to.
