Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Eisler.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Curiosity and ambition are the two traits that have fueled my personal and professional life for as long as I can remember. Whether traveling, writing, or working with my clients to help them gain insights, the curious side of me is constantly asking myself, “What can I learn here?” and the ambitious side of me is always calling out “Let’s take this to the next level!” These two attitudes describe how I approach my work as a leadership and executive coach and how I’ve approached my life.
Prior to coaching, my ambition fueled a successful career in content strategy. As director of a team of content creators, “What can we learn here?” and “Let’s take this to the next level!” were woven into the fabric of our team. With curiosity and ambition, I led editorial teams to grow quickly and engage digital audiences effectively through the changing tides of Internet publishing.
These traits naturally led me to launch a passion project in 2014 – www.MindfulMinutes.com – a blog about mindfulness and life balance in the digital age. In 2016, I published the book, The Type A’s Guide to Mindfulness: Meditation for Busy Minds and Busy People, which turned out to be a #1 bestseller on Amazon. I’m also a certified meditation instructor, certified yoga instructor, and enjoy leading classes, workshops, lectures, and trainings about mindfulness for leaders.
I have always been fascinated by human behavior, cultures, and the way people live, work and communicate in different parts of the world — and what we can learn from our differences to apply to our own communities and lives. I have traveled to more than 30 countries, speak two languages, and feel that travel has enabled me to broaden my perspective in valuable ways.
Another one of my passions is transformation and personal growth. My own experiences and transitions through loss, grief, careers, and relationships have fueled my desire to step out of my comfort zone, overcome my fears, and search for meaning — and help others do the same.
I specialize in leadership development and executive coaching. This includes helping clients develop self-confidence, improve their communication skills, strengthen their teams, strike a healthy work-life balance, and become more effective at achieving the things they want to achieve. The flavors of “What can we learn here?” and “Let’s take this to the next level!” are very present in my coaching conversations. Overall, I blend my curiosity, ambition, and 15 years of experience in the corporate world, with my background in mindfulness to help my clients become more effective leaders and reach their goals.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been linear. I started out my career with an entirely different intention, but my personal and professional lives blended along the way to carve out a career path I could not have planned better. Building a coaching business has actually been much easier than I imagined it would be.
I have always heard about how difficult it is to build a business dependent on services and how much time and money you must dedicate into marketing the business. Initially, when I got certified, I had just intended to build a small coaching practice “on the side.” But fairly rapidly, and mostly through referrals, I have grown a robust coaching business — much faster than I ever thought possible, and without marketing my business at all. I think that when you find what it is you’re meant to do – it should not be difficult. This has at least been my experience.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I am certified by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and Newfield Network as a Newfield Certified Coach (NCC). I work with leaders and executives inside large and small companies, as well as entrepreneurs building their own brands and businesses, and I help them take their careers and businesses to the next level.
I think what sets me apart is that my clients really learn to take ACTION when they work with me and they move past the hurdles and limiting beliefs that have been standing in their way. We don’t just discuss what needs to get done, we actually do it. Many of my clients are also moving through some sort of change or struggling to lead in VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) environments that they learn to manage more effectively and more confidently. Together, we partner to ensure they meet their goals, whether their goal is related to developing confidence, effectiveness, and leadership presence, or about learning to manage their stress or find purpose in their work.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The definition of success for me is dependent on what we’re talking about and who we are talking to. For example, success for my business this year is determined by whether or not I meet my revenue goal, whether or not my clients meet their goals, and is also measured by how happy and fulfilled I am in the work I’m doing and how much balance I have in my work and life. Success in my personal life is measured by the level of connection I have with those close to me and how healthy and happy my family is.
