Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Richardson.
Chris, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
During my time at Arizona State, I was heavily involved with on campus events and realized that I enjoyed helping people reach their potential and just assisting overall. It was a good feeling being in leadership roles. After graduating, I got into car sales and noticed there are a lot of people who don’t know much about finances, credit and other basic life skills or opportunities necessary to fully reach their potential. After a few of these encounters, I found myself wanting to do more than just sell a car. I felt like I was capable of being and doing more than just credit sales. Artists such as Nipsey Hussle and J. Cole really fueled what I was looking to do. Which was to step up within my community to educate and give back to those underserved so we all have the same opportunities to make impactful changes or whatever necessary changes within our lives so we wake up every morning with a purpose. I just wanted to be in a position to allow people to write their own stories instead of having society write it for them.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not. There is still a LOT that I’m learning to this very day. Outside of the legal side of things, most of the struggles are all mental. Whether its fundraising ideas, which missions should we target and how to get the community more involved while having fun. Thanks to our community and great leaders like Alisha Tillery and Lashaniece Terrell, we’ve exceeded our goals with every mission so far but I still feel a long way away from getting people to understand the WHY in why we’re doing all of this. I truly feel once we reach a larger crowd and the community sees what we are attempting to provide for the youth people will buy in and it’ll only make us stronger as a community. I feel like everyone in this city has something to contribute towards our cause we just have to get them to see and believe in it.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Black Titan is a brand and nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase Public and Community relations within underserved communities. We seek to teach and inspire our younger generation while providing assistance to individuals in need to improve our communities. Our goal is to open up educational rec centers where we can open up jobs and continue to teach, develop and grow the minds of our youth for a sustainable future. What we’re most proud of is what we stand for and where we come from. This is why we do it. We want to be able to say that we did as much for our community as it did for u growing up. What sets us apart from other brands will be the fact that over half of our fundraised through our clothing will go directly towards our missions and rec center once produced.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is having a vision, creating a plan and being able to stick to it long enough to see it all work out without losing yourself. I would base my success off the number of lives we are able to contribute to as well as the number of people we can motivate and inspire to make a change. If I can’t make the change I’m looking to make, I can only hope I inspire someone else to do it for me in a better fashion. Opening up our educational rec center would be the pinnacle of our success.
