Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Lizarraga.
Roger, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The story of Dr Apple San Diego was truly right place at the right time. I met my business partner thru a mutual friend and he confined in me that the business was doing poorly due to a number of reasons. Two major issues that arose was the location and cash flow. After a few meetings and discussions, we came to an agreement and became 50/50 partners. It was a leap of faith for me, but having my own business has always been a dream and this opportunity was too good to pass up. Being in business for eight years now I can say it was the best decision of my life. A lot of ups and downs through the process sometimes it even seemed if it was a string pull away from unraveling but I’m proud to say Dr Apple lives on!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This is my first business. That being said the road has not been easy or smooth. My business partner and I had several disagreements and the main disagreement was were the cash flow went. Ultimately, my business partner decided this business was not profitable enough and wanted to dissolve the partnership. That was not an option for me. My business partner chose to walk away but I took on the challenges head on. I am proud and happy to say that not only is the business caught up on pass challenges but I am actively seeking ways to prove to our customers that Dr Apple San Diego is the best in the business. Including being part in the Bureau of Household Goods and Services.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dr Apple San Diego story. Tell us more about the business.
Dr Apple San Diego is the only San Diego shop that specializes in fixing Apple devices including screens, batteries, water damage, charging ports, etc. We pride ourselves on using high quality replacement parts and offer a three month warranty on any defective parts. During this time when small businesses have been forced to close due to COVID-19, I am proud to be able to keep my doors open. I was able to help parents get devices up and running so their kids could keep up with their school work. I was fixing cameras on iPads, MacBook’s and iPhones so that families could see their loved ones while following social distancing orders. I have been able to help the community during this time.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Life has been amazing. Life will give you ups and downs and we can always see it as half full or half empty. What I believe played a role for me was preparation. The lack of training or knowledge has made me feel like I had bad luck on my side through my life. As if I was sabotaged by life itself. As I’ve gotten older and was able to process that life is about how you prepare for it. When I’ve taken my time and done some research and did some digging on certain topics it’s a smoother transition then going in blind. Luck for me is based on preparation and it seems like I got good luck when I do the research first.
