Meet Bernardo Blanco, Alexis Robles and Diego Sepulveda of Three Pyramids in Imperial Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernardo Blanco, Alexis Robles and Diego Sepulveda.

Three Pyramids was founded on April 9th, 2019, by band members; Diego Sepulveda (drums/vocals), Alexis Robles (bass), Bernardo Blanco (guitar/vocals). It all started when Bernardo was kicked out of his former band and fell into an acute depression. After weeks and weeks, of not being able to even pick up the guitar to play, Bernardo decided that enough was enough. He started to look for new musicians with the purpose of creating a new band. He sent messages through social media to many musicians, but the only outcome was failure. One day, Bernardo was swiping through Facebook, and came across a guy’s picture with a bass guitar in it. This guy’s name was Alexis Robles. When Bernardo sent Alexis a message, they agreed to have a jam session at Alexis’s friend’s house, he had told Bernardo that his friend played the drums and had a drum set there. After one tremendous jam session, Alexis, Bernardo, and Diego noticed that they all clicked so good! We were so shocked and excited, so we decided to start a band. This is how Three Pyramids was born. A week after rehearsing we were going to have our first gig, at a cafe called “Praga” located in downtown Tijuana. The band did not have a name yet, so I proposed to them, the name of Three Pyramids, since it was only three of us, we said “what the hell”. One year and a half later, we consider ourselves one of the strongest bands of Tijuana, with very few audience still, and only two singles on digital platforms, we are preparing ourselves to blossom and be recognized very soon.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road at all, I believe any artist would comprehend this, and even people who are not into the art world. I believe that it can be a perilous road for anyone. For everybody. No, it has not been smooth, Three Pyramids is definitely not living off of music right now. It is our plan, and full intention, and we have no doubt that we will do so, but as of today, we have to make other moves and work on things that have nothing to do with music, to keep on moving.

As musicians, we can encounter many obstacles such as; people not wanting to pay at all for your performances just because your music is original, and you do not play other artist songs, like many musicians do, for the same reason, because, when you are an unrecognized musician, the quickest way to earn money, is by going to bars, events, and playing music that has already been written. Many people do not have the patience to go support a local artist that is actually creating new and interesting music, just because their name is not recognized. I believe this can be the biggest obstacle of any musician.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
Our company is basically a music factory, we create songs, we record them, and we try to sell them. Isn’t it like this for all artists? We specialize in transmission of feelings through a variety and mix of rock related content (music). We are known for having explosive live performances, we have been told that we make the audience feel what we try to express through sounds. We are proud to be who we are. As many people know, sadly but truly, rock is a dying breed, but that does not stop us from making what we love, so we are proud to present 21st century rock music. I think what sets us apart from other bands, or artists, is that we play our music with a lot of passion. A lot. When we get up there, nothing goes through our minds, but wanting to give the best show possible, also that we are a very versatile rock band. All of our music is 100% original, and it comes within roots of classic rock, to 1970’s funk, to blues, to reggae rock.

What were you like growing up?
I will speak for myself (Bernardo Blanco) since I am the only one writing this article out of two other people. When I was four years old, I would run around my house, and sing Mexican mariachi songs loudly. An uncle of mine once saw me doing this, and he said, in Spanish, “this guy is going to be an artist”. Well he was completely right. I was a rebellious kid, I would always disobey my elders, and did whatever I pleased.

This was just part of my personality, and it still is. When I was in high school, I always felt I was different from everyone else, I noticed that I did not like the music that most people listened to, and when I showed them my music, they always thought that I listened to “old people music”. Well technically I did, but this so called “old people music” was the best for me. The Doors, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Santana, The Police, Jimi Hendrix, Sublime, Heroes Del Silencio, Caifanes, Nirvana, Bob Marley. That is what I listened to.
