Inspiring Conversations with Kiana Valdivieso of Vieso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Valdivieso.

Hi Kiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Vieso (pronounced Ve-es-o) is a handmade jewelry line made in San Diego, California, founded by Kiana. Vieso comes from my last name Valdivieso. My family inspires me in all aspects of life, and that is why I want to share part of me with you. Growing up, my mom surrounded me with arts and crafts. A few years ago, jewelry making was the “Craft of the Week,” and I have never stopped making it for fun since then. It wasn’t until about a year and a half ago, where I started selling my jewelry through Instagram. Earlier this year, I was able to expand my business to a website. For A Timeless Soul. My slogan “For A Timeless Soul” was created because Vieso jewelry is made to be worn by everyone. It should be worn as a form of expression. I love creating jewelry because it is not a necessity but rather something we wear to feel beautiful in. So, my hope when people wear my jewelry is to build their confidence, feel empowered, or add the finishing touches to their outfits. I encourage the wearer of my jewelry to explore and experience life in their pieces while incorporating them into their everyday outfits. Every piece, loop, ear hook, and shape is made by me, and I cannot wait to see them on your timeless soul.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think any business, big or small, ever has a smooth road. One of the struggles for my business has been navigating the business world. As a senior at Point Loma Nazarene University majoring in Education with a concentration in Child Development… well… I think that says enough about my prior knowledge about business. As a fairly new small business, I had to learn how to be a website builder, accountant, photographer, marketer, and any other job a bigger business might have. Learning how to navigate all those roles while also keeping up with being a student and maintaining my relationships with family and friends has been quite challenging. You won’t believe how many times I talk to a guru for my website platform. Having to be in every role is not an easy task, but I am learning so much about myself and the world around me along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What I want people to know that I have a piece for everyone, from wire flowers to vintage beads. My pieces are made from a variety of metals, including 14k Gold-Filled and Sterling Silver, which can last years with proper care. I have a wide price range for those jewelry lovers who like to constantly buy a new piece or those who want to invest in a piece that can last them years to come. I am known for many of my wire pieces, such as earrings called Loopy, Hibiscus, and Malia, which are all wire pieces bent and shaped by hand. My wire pieces are unique because they are original designs and no two pairs are alike.
