Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Ditch.
Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Seattle-born, San Diego-based landscape and commercial photographer. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I’ve always had an appreciation for nature, but my true passion lies in the city. I started out shooting primarily urban night photography but progressed to include nature as well, specifically waterfalls. It’s always been a goal of mine to diversify my craft and continue growing as a photographer; most recently, I’ve been diving into Astro so that has been a fun new challenge.
I’ve been photographing seriously since 2016 and have poured my heart and soul into it. Over the years, I’ve seen some amazing places and met the most incredible people, some I’m sure will be friends for life. Photography has just been the greatest gift, personally and professionally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a smooth road, but I think that is due to the amount of work I’ve put in. I truly believe you get out what you put in and I’ve worked tirelessly to make this a serious profession. It’s important to believe in yourself, take opportunities when they come, even if they scare you and never doubt your success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work consists of landscape and commercial photography. I specialize in wide symmetrical scenes and always strive for the cleanest images. I primarily use a tripod so I can take as many images as needed to get the exact look I want.
I’m most proud of my relationships with brands as it’s my belief that business is more about partnerships than payroll. It’s hard to know what truly sets you apart from others, but if I had to guess, it’s my work ethic. You can’t control the gifts you’re given in this life, but you can control the time you dedicate to them. I know that my dedication to always be better will never let me down.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, adapt or die. This is something I believed before the pandemic and something that has got me through it. Life will never stop, it will never let up and the world can change in a moment, so you have to stay ready.
