Today we’d like to introduce you to Tino Gabaldon.
Tino, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally from Denver, I have always had an artistic and creative side and loved working with my hands. I have always painted and drawn and was going to attend Art school, but went to Massage Therapy school instead. My mother was a hairstylist when I was younger and I started cutting my own hair in the 7th grade. That eventually led me to cutting friends and family and gave me years of self taught practice cutting men’s hair.
From there, I decided to attend Paul Mitchell the School San Diego for Cosmetology in 2013 to not only master my Men’s cutting craft, but also learn how to do Women’s hair also. I specialize in Men’s cuts and Balayage. My goal is to never stop educating myself so I can stay on top of the new tricks and trends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was not easy. I didn’t feel comfortable with color theory literally till even 9/10 months after I graduated Paul Mitchell and was assisting at a salon in Old Town. I was just so confused as to why my fellow hairstylists used certain colors on each client to achieve certain looks. So I decided to study 2 specific color lines and 1 day it just clicked.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hair studio Owner/Hairstylist. I specialize in Men’s Grooming and Balayage/Sunkissed Coloring. I’d say I’m known for teaching guys how to style and wear their everyday hair and also my low-maintenance coloring techniques. What sets me apart from others is that I have my own Men’s Grooming Hair Product line called T.G. Hair Products I have 2 clays, a paste, a cream and a volume powder.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say luck can play a part in your life or business to a certain extent, but I truly believe you really get what you want by working hard for it and never giving up on your goals and dreams.
