Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Hernandez.
Hi Noah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first got into car detailing over the summer of 2021. Going into my senior year of high school, I was looking for potential jobs that interested me. Being filled with the burning passion for entrepreneurship, the idea of selling my time for minimum wage – just didn’t sit right with me. I needed to create something in my life, a project, something I could visibly measure. As my walk with the Lord continued to grow more intimate, I trusted him with my life, asking “Lord, what do you want me to do for work?”
At this point, the seed of car detailing had been planted in my heart. I find it really interesting that I had a seemingly overnight obsession with car detailing because frankly I never grew up around cars. Up until when this is being written, I have yet to change a tire or even change my own oil. Granted, I don’t have my own car yet, that’s definitely something I’m going to learn before I move out.
Working day by day, stacking little wins on top of each other, I was equipped with the experience of building a brand from previous business endeavors which definitely helped. Today as I’m writing this it’s October 15, 2021. The Lord has guided me from a mere idea, a thought, into a vision, then to a plan. Executing on that plan consistently has been paramount to generating results. Approaching the milestone of my 10th client, things are definitely starting to fall into place.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Now I don’t want anyone reading this to think that just because I am seeing results in my business I haven’t had to overcome any obstacles. Funny story – from when I am writing this, just yesterday I was detailing for a client. The first time went great and they were blown away by the final results (their words not mine). Man, I love a great reaction after a detail. Anyways, the second detail I scheduled for 10 o’clock A.M. not taking into account that the sun would be approaching its peak as I was getting down to business. Fortunately, I had one of my friends help out that day, but he was only able to stay for about 2 hours. I made the mistake of not showing up early, which cut into the time I had to work with him and on top of that I had never had someone help me with a detail before – I had no idea how to direct him. On top of all of this, the sun starts baking us and the car.
In the beginning, I was thinking what can he help with like I have one vacuum, one this, one that. I was not prepared at all, to say the least. Finally, we start on the tires together – everything is going smooth now, right? We finish two of the four tires and the hose pops. I was unaware of this, but when you are using a stretchy hose and the water pressure is too high, it’s eventually going to weaken the fibers and lead to compromised integrity. That’s a lot of big words to say water goes where it wants. I try to see the flip side of the negative – take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it for good-type stuff, so then I decided this little tear in the hose was now a mister to keep us cool. Finally realizing the most important thing I needed help with was washing the exterior.
Not sure how this slipped my mind, but if you don’t know, when you are washing a car in heat or direct sunlight, you need to consistently spray water and soam to keep the car from drying – which leads to the dreaded water spots. As soon as I realized this, my friend pretty much had to leave, leaving me with doing what was really a two-person job in weather that was not very forgiving, I had to move as fast I could, detailing while at the same time re-applying foamy soap and water, without compromising on the quality. Not an easy feat. I learned a few life lessons though always show up early, never be underprepared, and don’t detail at noon.
Other than that specific instance I’ve also faced self-doubt, pressure to get a “real job’ from family, and even a few friends also my own distractions in my personal life. These are all going to affect you in any path you take. But the fruits of these challenges are definitely more evident when you take the path less traveled.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Sure, anyone who wants to get into detailing, first identify why you want to start your own business. This is of most importance. Then start by looking up detailing videos on youtube. Everything you could learn about detailing can be found on the internet, you just need to look. Then, start detailing your own family’s cars. Take some pictures and start telling your friends and family about your business. Give your first few clients sub-market prices and pour your heart into the details. Take before and after pictures and don’t forget to get reviews from them! Google is the best platform to collect reviews on. Yelp is good too, but you likely find most of your reviews being taken down. Decide who you want your ideal client to be and brand your company around that to cater to them specifically. Build a website (I use Shopify) and then make some business cards. Carry them around with you everywhere you go and don’t be afraid to tell anyone that you detail. They’ll remember that. If you’re serious about getting into car detailing or building a business in general don’t hesitate to reach out – most people just say things to say them, but I mean that.
