Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Foley.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was born and raised in San Diego. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fashion and interior design from Point Loma Nazarene University and even got the chance to study abroad for interior design at Florence University of the Arts. After college, I worked for Pindler and Pindler fabrics where I learned more than you would ever want to know about textiles. I then moved on to working for a boutique furniture showroom which is where my love for beautiful furniture started. During this time I married my other love “my husband” who is my very best supporter and I don’t know what I would do without. I then took the next steps in my design career and started with a well-known design firm where I worked as a lead designer on full room designs and remodels.
While working, I had 2 beautiful and kind little girls who keep me on my toes. It took me about 10 years to get where I am now but I wouldn’t change a second if it. I feel so grateful for everything I have learned along the way and know I will continue to grow and learn on my new venture of starting Vanessa Foley Interiors.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I graduated during a recession and jobs in the design industry were scarce. I worked as a retail designer and a design assistant for years. I believe that the struggles made me who I am today and the lessons I have learned from them continue to help me in my business today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vanessa Foley Interiors?
My passion is to help create spaces that people love to spend time in. Whether a remodel or a simple room design I always strive to reflect each client’s personal taste.
Vanessa Foley Interiors is a full service residential design company that can help with a variety of design challenges from architectural details to custom furniture pieces.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The design industry is very cyclical. For example, 6 years ago designers were removing gold fixtures and now we are putting them right back in. I am not a fan of using trendy pieces or concepts in my designs because I think that the most beautiful spaces are classic and timeless. I do however love the recent shift in materials. I am seeing more real stones, hand baked tiles and textured wall and window coverings. I enjoy seeing real raw materials being used in innovative ways.
