Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Johnson.
Hi Kelsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This past August, I left my corporate career to pursue artistry full-time. Leading up to this year of change, I traveled the Western US as an agricultural sales manager. Although I am self-taught, I’ve always pursued my painting and illustration work with the intent of my dream becoming a reality. Over five years of committing long nights and weekends to my business, I am proud to be a fulfilled professional illustrator and oil painter with a long and exciting journey ahead!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a perilous and bumpy road with plentiful beautiful moments along the way. I believe anything worth pursuing is both difficult and rewarding. There have been many struggles along the way- but many of mine come from my intense interest in utilizing my business skills to grow my artwork into much more than canvas or paper. Every day I must remember to remain focused on simply drawing and painting.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist specializing in Western and wildlife realism primarily with graphite and oil paint mediums. I most enjoy painting and sketching Western figures. I love what you can learn about a person just by admiring an artistic depiction of them. Their thoughts, history, desires, sorrows, ambitions, regrets. I am most proud when I create a thought-provoking artwork that inspires people to be more curious about the humanity that surrounds us.
What does success mean to you?
Success is a humble contentment with the balance of achievement and yet unattained goals.
