Community Highlights: Meet Ann Gelli Aranas of Glam Face

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Gelli Aranas.

Ann Gelli, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been lashing since 2013 and an Esthetician since 2014. Being a Registered Nurse, I worked long hours in the nursing field. My journey in esthetics started when I suffered from adult acne which encouraged me to become a Licensed Esthetician. The Estheticians who treated me for acne inspired me to become licensed because of how much freedom and independence they had working for themselves. I felt the need of flexibility with my work schedule because of my son, who is now turning 11. While working during the day as a nurse, I went to Esthetician School at night time. During Esthetics school, I took a certification training for lashes, which I immediately became obsessed with because of how lash extensions give clients a confidence boost and an overall feeling great about themselves when their natural beauty is enhanced through lashes. As soon as I became licensed, I immediately started my very, very, very part-time esthetics and lashing business.

I worked as a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) (11 years) AND esthetics/lashing business as a side hustle for seven straight years. I worked both jobs– nursing during the day and esthetics/lashing after hours and weekends, without or with very limited time off. After seven years of working both jobs, I decided to resign from my full-time Registered Nursing job at UC San Diego Health to pursue my esthetics and lash business as a solo entrepreneur, Glam Face in San Diego. I took a great risk to quit an RN job with highly competitive pay, full benefits, and retirement plan so that I can run my own business. So far, it turned out to give me greater benefits and unlimited opportunities especially freedom, independence, and financial stability. Having time and work-life balance is my wish ever since to be able to spend more quality time with my son and family. For the past few years, I started training lash students, setting them up for success and inspiring them that they can reach their dreams like I did. In 2021, I launched my lash supply business called Glam Face Lashes (IG: @gflashes_USA). I’m so excited what the future holds for this life I chose for myself and my family. Most of all, I love what I do especially meeting amazing clients who inspire me in so many ways.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles of pursuing a dream are a part of the process. Personal and business challenges happen, but they don’t stop me from chasing my dream. They help me learn and grow to achieve my goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I own Glam Face, Inc., located in Sola Salons in Mission Valley. I provide lash extensions, permanent make-up (brows), and facial services. As a Registered Nurse, client safety, infection control, and education are my focus. My clients are my number one priority– I do my best to make them happy and satisfied. Being a Master Lash Artist, I offer Lash Certification Classes as well. I want future lash artists to learn lashing the right and safest way, that they do the right thing with integrity, follow the same principles that I do, and succeed in and love what they do. I use top quality products on my clients including my own lash supply brand, GF Lashes (@gflashes_USA). I carry Lash Adhesives, Luxury Lashes, and other necessary lash supplies that lash artists locally and within the United States also use.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I recommend to those who are starting out to create a plan and do not let go of your dream no matter what life throws at you. Be open-minded. Surround yourself with inspiring people and those who will lift you up. Take necessary classes/trainings for you to improve your skills and knowledge. Stay humble. Have a financial spreadsheet made so that you’d know your numbers. Consult with your financial advisor who will help you plan your future including retirement, health insurance, disability insurance, child education, etc. I can definitely say that there’s so much to do that comes with being your own boss; it’s a lot of hard work, but remember, there are many resources out there (and many are free). Keep dreaming, stay focused, take actions, start now, and enjoy your successes!
