Today we’d like to introduce you to Seneca 5050.
Hi Seneca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Like every kid, I liked to draw to express what I was thinking, it just never let go of me. Today I am ‘nowhere’ in particular, just random and rare commissions on the side of my 9 to 5. Like I said in one of my bios, I’m working class with a thirst for illustration, my gallery is a testament to every time I took a swig.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
California bureaucracy in 2021 is a huge obstacle, even though it’s my hometown (don’t get me started 😀 ). Art-wise, learning to draw backgrounds had been a bit of a challenge. Trying to make ends meet amidst backward governance (starving artist syndrome). The Internet: it’s a double-edged sword. It provides exposure worldwide for talent yet has become over-saturated with talent on a worldwide scale. That’s enough complaining 😀
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the moment, secularly, I work in a warehouse customizing wood floors. I’m a jack of all, ace of none, so I don’t particularly ‘specialize’ in anything…hold on…I’ll say caricature art as well as cartoony figures (post edit). I’m most proud of my God and my ma and how they taught me. I’m not too different from others, I’m a working joe blow.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I was, for the most part, a shy, easily intimidated kid so just doing normal kid stuff was “risky” to me and I think it carried over to adulthood. For instance, I recently bought two lifted trucks (beaters), but kids were doing that in their 20’s, so how risky is that, really. I mean, I don’t jump outta planes or anything. However! I’m for risk now that I’m older, suffered losses and time’s running out. Why not? I still have a very conservative mindset so I don’t carry on with reckless abandon, nevertheless risk has its place.
