Inspiring Conversations with Jewell Harloff of Kini Koffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewell Harloff.

Hi Jewell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started working as a barista when I was 16, and ever since then I wanted to open my own coffee shop. I went to school in San Diego and worked as a dental hygienist for four years until realizing it was time to get back to what I really loved, making coffee and friends! The idea behind Kini Koffee is “women supporting women.” We are a female ran organization and I have been so lucky to have incredible women come on this journey way with me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. Before opening the first coffee shop, I was in the market to find the location for two years before I was able to sign a lease and open doors. I had to hear 50+ People tell me “no” to putting a coffee stand on their property. Until I finally got a break with the Del Mar Plaza, and I could not be happier with the location.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Kini Koffee is a cute little coffee shop by the beach, we are female-owned and operated and are all about women supporting women. We are in the business of making delicious coffee and meaningful connections with everyone who comes to our business! I am most proud of the baristas who work at Kini Koffee and how truly kind and inspiring they are. I feel so lucky to have such a supportive and wonderful team.

What are your plans for the future?
San Diego will be hearing a lot more from us in the next couple of years! So many exciting plans, but for now we just want to spread love to all of our amazing customers!
