Today we’d like to introduce you to Moss Ortega.
Hi Moss, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
How we got started into the streetwear industry was vintage apparel & headwear… I started doing local meet-ups and building a community online through eBay in 2014. I fell in love with brands, designs, and marketing through a plethora of brands from everywhere. I eventually turned my vintage business from being just online to doing pop-ups locally and events to bring out inventory and sell to my friends. After a few years of doing this, I grew out of thrifting for vintage items to designing my own designs and wanting to create my own brand. I went into apparel manufacturing and learning the basics on how clothing is made from just an idea. I learned screen printing, embroidery, and cut and sew. After learning I then started apprenticing positions that got me to take charge of projects that involved cool brand releases with brands I looked up to. Eventually, I started working with brands out of LA and SD. After doing projects for a while, I decided to go into business myself and start throwing up ideas on creating my streetwear brand. I eventually created Original Good Stock-based from the term Dead Stock which means not sold at all anymore holding rare value. Then we created our “monogram” logo OG’ apostrophe s which represents the abbreviation of Original Goodstock. Ever since then our brand created its identity from OG’s along with a core following to an audience who can relate to our lifestyle.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road is an understatement, our journey has been a handful of good and bad challenges. I think the ones I can definitely highlight is having to market and brand our products and story behind our brand. Some years it was hard to really have friends and people grasp our concept., but I think they eventually caught on. Another would have to be financial sacrifices we had to make in order to grow the brand and really make some good apparel.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our work presents designs brought to life through apparel, tops, bottoms, headwear, and accessories. One thing that’s special to what we offer is our hand distressing techniques we do on logos on headwear. We’ve took this technique to great lengths to have our headwear stand out. I would have to say this is our most valued and highly demanded when it comes to our products. Overall, our brand represents a core of supporters who love streetwear, grew up in the grit of neighborhoods, cartoons, anime, baseball & headwear. We’ve grown to touch base with all popular cultures.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up was pretty much filled with skateboarding, gangster movies, Saturday morning cartoons & anime. My parents tried their best to give me a creative childhood but because of my dad influenced in the gang culture we had always move from apartment to apartment and always found myself and my brother with a dozen different babysitters. Because I had a lot of time to myself, I really found comfort in my cartoons, toys, and trading cards. I really put myself in those stories of characters I really loved. I guess I can say that really helped with adding to my creativity.
