Daily Inspiration: Meet Skyla Disney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyla Disney.

Hi Skyla, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a 15-year-old model, dancer, and influencer. I started modeling as a baby but as I got older, I mostly focused on cheer and dance. A few years ago, I was approached by a photographer who was working with a brand within the cheerleading community and was asked to take part in a photoshoot for a marketing campaign. The photos from that campaign became popular on social media, and lots of other brands started reaching out. I quickly started modeling for different brands within the cheer world and as those photos spread across social media, I started also getting contacted by other people and just naturally fell into the influencer circle as my Instagram following grew.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think I’ve been fortunate with a lot of the opportunities that I’ve had, but everything good in life comes with their own set of struggles. For me, I struggled a lot with my own body image. I think all teen/tween girls can understand what that feels like, but when you have tens of thousands of people watching you on social media, there is a mix of a lot of support, but also a lot of negativity that you have to learn how to not take personally.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a model, dancer, and influencer. I feel like there isn’t a whole lot of diversity in any of these areas, so I definitely feel like I stand out being Asian. What I’m most proud of though, is that I try really hard to promote a clean, positive image on social media. I know a lot of kids out there struggle with peer pressure and fitting in. I’ve prided myself in maintaining a clean, wholesome image and showing kids that you can fit in and you can be successful while still dressing appropriately for your age and not giving in to drugs, vaping, etc.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think the most important quality to success is being resilient. You’ll hear “no” a lot more than you’ll hear “yes” but you just have to keep working hard to improve your skills to be better for the next opportunity. You have to just keep on trying.
