Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy DeConcini.
Jeremy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am one of the founders of MotoSonora Brewing Company in Tucson, AZ, but as we opened right at the start of the pandemic, I kept my job in industrial real estate in San Diego. One of the buildings that I manage used to be the home of Thunderhawk Alements a nano brewery with a strong local following. It seemed a shame to let the space where I had so many beers sit empty, so with the help of Toby Noblin, Jason Adams, and Laura Anderson, we created a space for friends to enjoy some of the best craft beer around with a San Diego centric vibe. I personally moved to San Diego in 2002 from LA for a government job and loved the city, its beer, and its people. We couldn’t be happier than to have Wolf Larsen’s Alehouse as a spot for all of us to share a beer in America’s Finest City.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything during the pandemic was a struggle, from getting licensed to finding contractors to do the work we needed, however as far as these things go, we were lucky in that most of the hard work in the space had been done by Jon and Bill at Thunderhawk, we were able to get open with relatively few problems compared to what a lot of other people went through with their businesses during the pandemic.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We want to curate a tap list that represents the very best beer that we can find that may not be widely available other places, for example, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is one of the best beers on the planet, but you can find it almost anywhere so we won’t have it at Wolf Larsen’s, we will be scouring San Diego and beyond for beers of that quality level but that maybe most people haven’t heard of yet.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
All of our beer servers have to go through the Level 1 Cicierone certification. We listen to The Beer Hour Podcase with Jonathon Wakefield on Sirius Business Radio. Craft Beer and Brewing Magazine is on our list of great things to read and stay on top of what is happening in beer as well as The New Brewer from the Brewers Association.
