Hi Erica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there, I’m Erica. I moved to the San Diego area two and a half years ago. While I’m new to living here, I grew up going to La Jolla every summer and I have a lot of great childhood memories here. I’m originally from Arizona and I’ve been a single mother for most of my adult life. When my son turned 18, I decided to make my dream of living by the ocean into a reality, and I made the move to California. I loved taking photos of the beautiful beaches and the amazing plants that grow here. Eventually, I decided that I should see myself as worthy of being in my own photos and I learned how to take pictures of myself in these beautiful surroundings. I started posting my photos on Instagram and I now have over 130,000 followers. I’ve enjoyed traveling around Southern California and exploring nature here. Along the way, I’ve learned to love myself and see myself as beautiful, just the way I am.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say my road has been smooth. I’ve had struggles as a single mother. I also have anxiety/depression, and a hormonal disorder which makes losing weight difficult. I try to stay positive though, because I know that I can overcome any obstacle.

My work is focused on documenting my journey of self-acceptance. I really strive to promote body positivity. We all have our insecurities, but it is important for me to show that you can love yourself at any size and any age.
