Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Smith.
All right, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Admittedly, I’m in an unusual business. It grew out of a horrific personal experience – a case of making lemonade from lemons on steroids. Leading up to it, in 2012 a friend introduced me to a man thinking this man and I could work together. As it turned out, we got married. A few months in, things unraveled; I discovered his life story was lies, and his motivation for marrying me wasn’t in good faith. After telling him to leave, I made discoveries about who he was and what he’d done, not only to me but to others. I waded through legal issues and got an annulment. It was after a year of settling all kinds of messes he’d made in my life, that I launched my website, www.truelovescam.com, writing articles about this phenomenon straight from the gut and heart of my experience… About this set-up of “predator and prey” masquerading as a love match. To my surprise, people who found my website reached out asking if they could talk to me to resolve their similar experiences. This led to giving recovery sessions, guiding people out of the confusion, the trauma, the fear, and the destruction anyone in one of these hijackings is left sitting in. And that’s how it came about! In True Love Scam Recovery coaching sessions, we dialogue; through the conversations, together we restore their lives. I have some proprietary methods and techniques I pass on that rebuild self-trust, rebalance the nervous system, and keep this wild emotional ride from shading their
future. As a certified coach, I have sessions with people across the globe, from South Africa to Holland to Italy, and Egypt to all around the U.S. I’ve given workshops in London, Paris, and Berlin. I’ve published one book of five women’s true stories in “Breaking Up with Evil: Escaping Coercive Control”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge is in getting across the simple truth about this kind of experience. It’s a lot for people to take in. The realities of this are unexpected. I strive to bring hope and a constructive element into this suffering; to bring insight, a point of view that melts away what was unseen or hidden so that what’s left is clarity. That’s my job as I see it; to guide people to a place where genuine answers come into focus so they can restore their lives in the way they wish.
As you know, we’re big fans of True Love Scam Recovery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As a brand, True Love Scam Recovery grew out of what I went through and continues to grow along with those who find that my experience resonates with them and makes sense of their own. It’s been humbling and fulfilling. I have the honor to hold people’s trust in the most vulnerable and terrifying time in their lives. Coaching sessions are unique to each person. Together we create a strategy to take back their lives, we make shifts that lead them to the freedom they’re seeking. You can see reviews and testimonials from clients on my website in the hundreds. I believe that what I have to say, my message is timely. It’s grown out of a natural evolution that’s going on within our human family. We’re in a place as a worldwide society where bullying, deceit, controlling abuse, domestic violence, and all the things associated with this aren’t accepted or tolerated anymore; what it’s made up of and the causes behind it are being seen differently than before. I’m straightforward, I don’t give the “abuser” an inch. Speaking up as I do puts me in the firing line sometimes, but this is an expected piece of making change. From the beginning, I ran True Love Scam Recovery under the pseudonym, “Jennifer Smith”. This is to represent “every woman”, that is to say, “every human” and reflect that this can happen to anyone. Using a penname felt uncomfortable at first, but right away – and to this day – it’s been proven as the right choice for privacy and safety. What are your plans for the future?
I plan to get more books out there. I’d like to find the time to get a podcast up and get more on my YouTube channel. It’s only me, from writing and content creation to seminars and coaching. It’s a lot. I guess I need a bigger plate!
