Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Jay Warren of CAP Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jay Warren.

Hi Dr. Warren, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m one of those people that always knew I wanted to be a doctor. My mom was a nurse when I was little and I loved the way I felt when I was in her office so I decided I wanted to help people in the same way when I grew up. But when I was a premed student at UC San Diego, I realized medicine wasn’t the route for me and I found my way to chiropractic school. My experience with chiropractic up until then was for getting help with sports injuries I’d had in high school and college, so I thought I would become some sort of natural sports medicine type of doctor.

But when I started my training, I learned that Chiropractic was so much more than that. By working naturally with the body and using gentle adjustments along the spine, I could help remove the stress interference in the Nervous System that is blocking the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This opened up a whole new world of people I could help. So, my dream of being a family doctor and working with kids came true.

I’ve been a chiropractor for over 20 years now and my special focus in practice is pregnancy, postpartum and pediatric care. I work with a wonderful team at the CAP Wellness Center which is the only integrated, multi-disciplinary prenatal wellness center in San Diego.

To further help the new families I work with, I’ve created podcasts, online courses, and in-person workshops to support both moms and dads in this huge life change.

Not a day goes by in practice where I don’t feel extremely lucky to be able to work with pregnant women, babies, and dads.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say the struggle I had in my career came from trying to help too many people at the same time. I wanted to help moms and babies, as well as grandparents, athletes, office workers, autistic children, and people suffering from auto-immune diseases…too much! Each of these is a specialty within chiropractic that deserve specialized training and focus. So, once I committed to developing myself as a prenatal and pediatric chiropractor, my practice really flourished.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the perinatal chiropractor at the CAP Wellness Center, San Diego’s only integrated, multi-disciplinary prenatal wellness center. Owned by Dr. Capetanakis, a naturally oriented OB in Encinitas, we have assembled an incredible team of practitioners who all specialize in prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric care. In addition to chiropractic, we offer acupuncture, massage, pelvic floor physical therapy, and lactation consultant services. We teach a wide variety of birth education classes including Birth Fundamentals, Newborn Care, Breastfeeding, Infant CPR, and Baby Bonding for Dads. We have prenatal yoga classes and a free, weekly breastfeeding support group as well. We are all about natural birth and supporting new mamas, new dads, and babies!

I am also now an instructor for the ICPA (the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association), the profession’s second largest organization that trains all of us perinatal-oriented chiropractors. I’ve created the podcast, “Healthy Births, Happy Babies” where I interview the top experts in the natural birth and parenting world on topics that help new parents who have experienced over 800,000 downloads to date. I have created online courses for pregnant women, “Connecting with Baby” and new fathers, “The New Dads Class” and teach an in-person workshop, “Baby Bonding for Dads” to help expecting dads feel more confident and excited about becoming a dad.

I am proud that we have the reputation of being a “one-stop shop” for all things birth related, solving the problem many women have of “finding the good people” that specialize in pregnancy and postpartum.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel the success I’ve enjoyed has come from my deep and genuine desire to help people. It fills my heart knowing I’m helping new parents start off their family life more healthy, more confident, more skilled, more connected, and more supported as they move into this huge life change together.

Not a day goes by in practice where I don’t feel extremely lucky to be able to work with pregnant women and babies.

Helping moms bring their babies into the world more gently, more naturally, safer and healthier…

Helping infants release the stress and tension from a traumatic birth, so they can sleep better, breastfeed better, poop better, and generally be more comfortable in their bodies so that the whole family can bond and relax more so they can start off their lives together more connected, more loved and loving, healthier and happier together…

It’s the best! I’m so lucky to be able to help new families in this way.

I’ve built a wonderful practice in my community and I absolutely love what I do!
