Inspiring Conversations with Jimmy Dendrinos of NFT Concerts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Dendrinos.

Hi Jimmy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always knew I wanted to start my own business; I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to build. This goal of eventual self-employment has allowed me to take risks in my career. While I went to school for Computer Science at Santa Clara University and worked in Silicon Valley, I chose to leave the high salaries, air-conditioning, and relative comfort of the tech world to go work in music festivals.

When COVID hit, live events were the first thing to shut down. I went from traveling with a year’s worth of work to being unemployed and stuck at my grandparents’ house in Florida. During this time, I was watching a number of concert recordings to relive those great moments.

When I discovered NFTs, my first thought was, how can I merge this with concert recordings? I knew YouTube and Soundcloud offered minimal streaming payouts. For most artists, it’s simply not worth giving that content away for free.

I believe (and intend to prove) that the best way to monetize concert recordings is to release them as a limited-edition collectibles. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) allow for digital items to be owned and tracked quite easily. Seeing a potential positive use case for the this new technology, I decided to launch NFT Concerts. The goal of NFT Concerts is simple – transform concert recordings into digital collectibles using NFTs.

NFT Concerts just launched as a closed Beta on 9/1 and will be opening up to the Public on 10/1

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When I started NFT Concerts, I knew how I wanted the platform to function; I just had no idea how to build it. Today, I’m proud to say that I developed the platform on my own.

I marketed the idea from Feb 2021 until Feb 2022 and realized in that full year, while I had gotten some attention, I was still no closer to having a functional application.

Starting in Feb 2022, I decided to build it myself. While I had studied computer science in college, my education was mainly theoretical, and I had very little experience building things. Every line of code was learning experience, and there were times when I truly believed I wasn’t going to be able to do it.

I want to give a big thank you to platforms such as Thirdweb, OpenSea, and Web3.js for providing such great resources and documentation. I also want to shout out the YouTubers who take that documentation and turn it into fantastic sample projects. I’ll put a few links to my favorites below.

Now that NFT Concerts actually functions, the challenge of getting both artists and fans to use it has begun. If you’re reading this, I would encourage you to go register an account at NFT Concerts and poke around.

If you’re an artist, get it touch to turn any past, present, or future performance recordings into digital collectibles. I promise it’s super easy!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
NFT Concerts has an extremely narrow focus – transform concert recordings into digital collectibles using non-fungible tokens.

Mint an NFT Concert to unlock and stream a full performance recording. Each performance is token gated, available exclusively to the NFT Concert owners.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love live music, but I hate getting stuck behind the guy holding up a cellphone during the show.

While I understand his desire to record the magic of live music, it ruins the experience for everyone behind him. There is a demand for concert recordings, but it shouldn’t be left up to the “cellphone fan.” If artists record their own shows, cellphone guy can put down his phone and enjoy the moment.
