Daily Inspiration: Meet Nessa Lily

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nessa Lily.

Hi Nessa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My love for beauty led me to start posting makeup tutorials on YouTube in 2017. However, after learning more about the beauty community and its diverse artistry on various platforms, I shifted my focus to posting content on Instagram instead. Being on there is where I felt my creativity really flourished as I was inspired by other beauty content creator/makeup artists, the popular trends at the time, and feeling like I finally found a place where I could be myself. These are all major things that have had an impact on where I’m at in my makeup journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being on social media has definitely come with its fair share of challenges. I’ve learned so much from practicing various makeup techniques, testing out different photo/video editing styles, and trying to work past the constant image of “perfection” that people aspire to achieve online.

Something that I also dealt with, that many other people do as well, is figuring out how to separate yourself from other people in your niche. When you are trying to keep up with the ever-changing trends, it’s easy to get caught up in it which can make you start having feelings of doubt. Many times, it’s because you feel like you have to do exactly what everyone else is doing to be successful, and if you aren’t, then you feel like your work isn’t good enough. There is nothing wrong with being inspired by those around you, but I think putting your own personal unique touches in what you post will have your audience relate with your work even more.

Lastly, being a consistent presence on each platform is something that can still be a struggle. There are times where my life offline starts to interfere with being online. Going to school and work while pursuing your passion is a real balancing act. So filming makeup videos before work and editing them on my downtime were helpful methods I used to ensure my time was well manageable. It isn’t always perfect, but I definitely try to make it work.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Beauty Content Creator, mainly Instagram, and TikTok. I post fun makeup tutorials, products reviews, share beauty tips, and recently I’ve started incorporating fashion content into my platforms as well. Most of the products I share with my audience are on the affordable side since that is what I prefer to use. Especially with all of the innovations that brands have utilized to give their customers good quality products, I think it’s important to share with people that you can get a high-end-looking result without spend so much money.

In doing so, I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with and have my work be shared by some of my favorite affordable makeup brands, like e.l.f cosmetics, Profusion Cosmetics, and LA Colors Cosmetics to name a few.

An opportunity that I will forever be grateful for is being a Brand Ambassador for Shop Miss A, an amazing affordable beauty and lifestyle brand. Their product prices start at $1 and up; they are cruelty-free and have great quality that you wouldn’t expect for them being so budget friendly. I’m eager to continue working with them and very excited to see where the next steps in my creator journey takes me.

What do you think about luck?
I believe that luck played a pretty significant role in how I wanted to proceed as a content creator. After a few years, I started having major doubts about whether or not I should continue to post online. Even though I still had a passion for makeup, I felt really stuck and began to question if my work was going to lead to something greater. Then one day, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw that Shop Miss A was accepting applications to be a part of their Brand Ambassador Program. I filled out the form right away, but I didn’t think I would get the position. To my surprise, I got an email inviting me to be a part of their program about a week or so later. I honestly couldn’t believe it. That opportunity came at a time where I really needed it and truly gave me the motivation to keep believing in my talent and capabilities.
