Today we’d like to introduce you to Doah Lee.
Hi Doah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I got my first start 3-4 years ago, going and participating all the open mics and open jams around town. I knew that was the only way I can immerse myself into the music community. Now I have a 6-piece band, and we are getting ready to release some of our best work yet. I still can’t believe sometimes the progress I’ve made as a singer-songwriter and as a performer in such a short amount of time. Perseverance, overcoming my fear, and hungry for growth has played a big part in my success story as a musician who started from nothing.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I knew going into this it will be the most brutal and challenging road. I had to teach myself but mostly learn from my mistakes because there is no school or clear path in music industry. Being able to wear the creative/ artistic hat as well as business is pretty challenging, and there’s so many moving parts to make this successful. Writing, recording, rehearsing, booking shows, promoting, releasing music, making music videos, networking, going to festivals, show outfits, and everything else in between. It is a very hard industry to crack, and you also need money to execute everything, just like how we need investment funds to start a business. Struggles will never stop, but it is very rewarding when you overcome them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Doah’s daydream is a band that I daydreamed about. I am grateful to turn my daydream into reality. We are a high-energy female-fronted band, and we take pride in writing music that is emotionally fueled. We refuse to box ourselves in a genre. Our music is diverse, and I work hand-pick the producers base on the vibe and feel of the music. We are proud to call our genre “island grunge,” which fits us so perfectly. We have the pop RnB Hawaiian island reggae mashed with hard rock, Ska, and EDM. What sets us apart from everyone is our live shows. We take our audience on an emotional journey with high energy to captivating emotional performance and passion. Many people compared us to “No Doubt.”
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me truly happy is spreading the message of Self-love through music. I believe that we have to love ourselves first in order to love others truly. I grew up in an extremely abusive home, and self-love is something that I never had. I struggle so much with my self-esteem and didn’t feel worthy to do anything I loved. When I started the music journey, I found so much healing, self-worthy, and self-love. I am so grateful I get to do what I love and also help and inspire others to find love within themselves. It will make the world a better and happier place.
