Conversations with Omar Cigala

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Cigala.

Hi Omar, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A hobby that started at 12 years old, turned into a passion and love for music at the age of 18. Growin up, I always visited my God mother & I would always see my uncle Jose, my god mothers’ husband every weekend load up his gear to head out for house parties, he too was a DJ. I became his Roady, I learned how to set up & break down, At the age of 15 years old I was DJing at Quinceñeras and wedding’s all by myself & had to lose my stage fright in front of a lot of people and become comfortable with talking on the microphone. Little did I know that once I turned 18 and all these practices years playing at house events would soon open a door that made me fall in love even more, I was invited to DJ at a nightclub. My career as a DJ had just started, I became one of the very few DJs around my age to really hit it off, everyone was hiring me, after that one club opportunity. I loved everything about that night, so I decided to create my own events, “All Age Events” at the Show Palace in Oceanside or at the “La Hacienda” when Techno & Jerk was a huge thing. I became very popular around all the connecting cities. My career in the music industry did not stop, soon enough when I became of age, many other venues, promoters & DJs gave me opportunities that I would cherish. When I made into Downtown San Diego I thought and said to myself I made it. A few years later I made it on the Radio, building my name was finally piecing together, when another opportunity came & I began traveling as a DJ to different states around the United States & Mexico. I was Enjoying and loving every moment of being in different states and not ever seeing outside of California “I said I definitely made it”. It doesn’t stop there; I was also invited to opening DJ for Artist in front of thousands of people.

Today I am a Resident DJ for A popular venue “Sevilla Night club” in San Diego! & a resident DJ at Rookies in Oceanside “Margarita Mondays”.

I continue to do Many weddings, & quinceñeras per year, the services that I provide for my clients & professionalism is what keeps me very busy.

Four years ago, I wanted to grown my businesses & as I was making my way to a venue with my parents, I said to them “Let’s be partners” I began to explain to them my vision and what it was & they accepted. We launched a photobooth business and called it VIP photo Room! For the first year, we had no clients & had no idea how to use this booth, luckily I have a friend whose name is Carlos Harmz who had also supported the idea of me getting into the photobooth business, I asked questions, I watched videos & I was learning a lot about photoshop, thanks to a humble a noble person that he is. We shortly became very busy adding these services to my current ones. Fast forward to our present time, we currently own two photobooths & a 360 photobooth. I could not be much happier, my dreams and accomplishments continue to grow, and my businesses are very successful & my parents couldn’t be any happier, this is just the beginning.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road or an easy road when starting a business. It takes months, even years to be successful. You will fall many times, but it’s up to you, how you get back up, and what you try to do differently so that whatever brought you down doesn’t happen again.

I think the biggest struggle was being an immigrant & knowing you are not allowed to be here at a young age, ultimately, I think that’s why I have pushed so hard to become successful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialty are weddings and pretty much any event. I am known for my ability of adjusting to any environment. Many of the events I do, have different ethnicities, and being able to play different genres of music to fulfill people with joy is what I’m very proud of, not only that but being a fluent bilingual speaker with great microphone skills is what sets me apart from everyone.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My motivation and hard work is due to being a full-time father to Aiden & Elijah Cigala. The quality that I have that has continued to show in my success is being a student of my own craft, always wanting to learn more & taking on those risks and challenges. Taking on events that are challenging & learning something from them.
