Meet Melvin Ayala

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Ayala. Melvin was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Mo Shakray.

Hi Melvin, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in 94. I was just a fan of hip hop growing up as a kid. I’d love rapping to bone thugs cos of their cadence, I’d like the challenge. I remember feeling so proud when I learned a song by heart. It wasn’t until I heard Wayne that I started writing for the first time. After that, it’s just been a journey trying to find my voice and after a few years going off and on with music. I’m finally being more consistent than ever before. And that’s all I ever needed to do.

Please talk to us about your creative work and career. What should we know?
I feel like my art has evolved over time. Like I said, I struggled for a while to find my voice but I just kept going despite of my roadblocks and setbacks. I have a lot influences and am constantly being influenced by sound so I don’t just stick to one. However I do feel like I have a very smoker vibe. Other than that I feel like what makes me stick out is just my lyricism. I play with it every once in a while but on a serious note, I don’t think really puts words together the way I do and make it make sense.

Mo Shakray has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Mo Shakray and your experience with them.
First time I recall acquainting w Mo was at a Lokel’s Cafe event hosted by Tsunami. I went to support my cousin’s man, Rome and that’s when popped out and murdered that shit. I acknowledged her and let her know I fucked with it. Second time around was actually at Rome’s grand opening of the House of Dreams’ event called Love Fest about a year ago. That’s when I also met her man Eddie who’s also very talented Salvi artist like me so I immediately vibed with him too. At that time I was barely getting back into the groove with music but could only get so far recording at the crib on GarageBand and sending them to my boy Eron to mix and master them for me. The process was just going slow for me and eventually paused at a certain point for a lot of reasons. But nah, I wasn’t finna end my year like that… had I known Mo was an engineer from the go, say less, I’d probably would’ve had records out right now, but everything in its own time. After stacking a lil bread, I finally put the bullshit aside and tapped in with Rome to start recording again and that’s when I found out Mo actually knew how to mix and master and I was like whaaaa, that’s crazy!!! After that, I hit her up and the rest is history.
