Conversations with Maya Arguelles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Arguelles.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started when I was younger; I always been creative and loved making art. Every Christmas, my mom would buy me an “Art Set” filled with markers, paint, and colored pencils I would always draw, and I love to write. In the year 2018, I decided to take the risk and invest in myself and take a PMU course for eyebrows, and I loved every minute of it; it felt great to help women feel confident. I was doing this up until Covid-19 force us to a lockdown. During the pandemic lockdown, I was blessed with news that I was expecting a baby boy♡︎ in June 2021. During that time, my mom was also diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. She passed away September 2021. I was lost and not sure what to do. I decided I had to do something to keep my mind busy. I started practicing doing tattoos and wanted a style a bit different from your regular tattoo artist. With hard work and practice, I was now doing fine-line tiny tattoos. It brought out my creative side, and it keep busy, which I love. I had the opportunity to rent out a suite, and I took that risk. Now I have my own suite doing what I love, making cute body art and making my clients feel as comfortable as possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely had not been a smooth road, I had plenty of ups and downs. Times when I would get discouraged and wanna give up. Starting your own business has its challenging moments; it’s definitely not a smooth road. Especially trying to start a small business during Covid.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialized on Fine Line and Tiny Tattoos; what’s different from my style is I use single needle that creates a dainty fine-line tattoo. I also offer Glitter Tattoo, it’s a technique that creates an illusion of a glitter tattoo.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would love to give credit to my kids, especially my daughter she was my biggest cheerleader when I would wanna give up she would remind me I far I’ve come and not to give up. I want my kids to look up to me and know they can do anything, and also my mom she always supported what I did and told me sky’s the limit, I wanna make her proud.
