Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Loader.
Hi Anna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always wanted to be a photographer, and in my senior year of college, I finally started playing around with my camera that was very entry-level. When I moved after college in 2018, I worked full-time in marketing and started my business in Utah and growing clients in different types of shoots: families, seniors, portraits, brands, and then wedding photography. I played around with different editing, styles, and types of shoots until I found what I loved. I mostly focused on wedding and couples once I realized that was something I wanted to pursue.
I became a mom in 2020 and balanced working a full-time marketing job and still doing part-time Photography. It was pretty busy, but I loved having so much to do! Photography was a creative and social outlet for me.
I ran my business for 3 years until we moved to San Diego in 2021. I took a break for one year to work full-time at another job. But, one month ago, I quit my full-time job to stay home with my kids and pursue photography in San Diego. It’s truly my passion, and it’s great to get back into it. I think everyone can benefit from a high-quality photo that will last forever! I especially love the landscapes San Diego has to offer. I am currently focusing on families, portraits, and couples.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggles are not comparing myself to other photographers and growing my social media following. I also had to realize that social media was not a true indicator of my success as a business owner. For those reasons, I took a one-year break to regroup and rethink my priorities. Stating in 2023, I felt rejuvenated and had the time to dedicate to this passion of mine. It’s been hard to not focus on those challenges still, but as I manage my time *off* social media, I’m able to be more creative and not feel held back!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for family and couples photography and am starting to get into portraits now that I’m running my business in San Diego starting this year. I absolutely love working with families and kids and doing the shorter shoots. I stay true to color but have a bit of softness to my photos that feel timeless. I have a fun, loving, bubbly personality, and like to make silly jokes and things when we are working together. I am very organized and thorough, so those that work with me are very prepared before the shoot and know that we’re going to have a fun time! I am most proud of my weddings/elopements from Utah in national parks such as Moab.
I love working in the outdoors. Nothing brings me more joy than catching a photo during the golden hour in nature, specifically at the beach or, another favorite of mine, in the mountains. I love taking in fresh air, letting the wind blow around my face and those I’m photographing, and capturing the candid moments.
