Community Highlights: Meet Liza Janda of Yoga Janda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liza Janda.

Liza Janda

Hi Liza, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
When I was pregnant 30 years ago, I was terrified of labor, birth, and being a parent. But I was in denial! I didn’t even think I needed a childbirth class. I thought it was normal just to do whatever the doctor told you to do. So, 3 people told me to take the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth. I figured God was telling me to do this through 3 different people, so I signed up. The Bradley Method transformed my entire experience. My husband and I became active participants in the decisions that were made for me and our daughter. It gave me such confidence, knowledge, and the ability to have an unmedicated birth for our daughter. 4 years later; we had a home birth with a midwife. The more I learned about birth, the more I believed in women’s ability to give birth without medication. Not only were our birth experiences extremely positive, but my breastfeeding journeys were wonderful. I love birth and breastfeeding. These experiences led me to become a childbirth educator, teaching the Bradley Method for the past 28 years. I am also a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor. I teach Breastfeeding and work in Lactation Services at Scripps Memorial Hospital. I also teach childbirth preparation for Scripps.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road from the beginning because it was God’s plan, not mine. He gave me such a passion for helping parents-to-be and new parents. When I help them, it is such a blessing to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Yoga Janda?
I have taught the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth for 28 years. I taught Prenatal Yoga for 21 years but am taking a sabbatical for an indefinite period, beginning next week. I specialize in educating and helping parents-to-be and new parents prepare for and create their best birth experience and get off to a good start with breastfeeding and parenting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe this was all God’s plan, and I was lucky enough to recognize that and follow along with His plan. That’s why it has all worked out so well.
