Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Chitwood.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in 2000 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, when a friend started inviting me to his DJ events. At the time, I was a competitive pairs figure skater for Team U.S.A, but I usually had my weekends free for events. It wasn’t long before I realized I loved DJing!
In 2001 I started my own company, Dancing DJ Productions, which symbolized my goal of energizing people to dance and have a great time! In 2007 I retired from competitive skating and decided to move to San Diego, California. I fell in love with Southern California when traveling for skating, and moving there provided me with year-round DJing opportunities.
My passion for DJing continued to grow in San Diego, and I eventually became a full-time DJ! I also started adding other DJs to my team as our reputation grew rapidly. Over time we’ve become the biggest and most reviewed DJ company in San Diego, but I still have that same passion for DJing as I did back when I first started!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As with any business, there are learning curves along the way, but overall, it’s been a pretty smooth road from when I started to where we are now! I’ve been blessed with a lot of great people that have helped me over the years.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’d say one of the things that sets us apart is we’re able to provide a wide variety of DJs that can cater to many cultures, music styles, personalities, and we also have bilingual options as well. I’m really proud that all the DJs on our team are wonderful DJs and great people!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ve worked really hard to build a good network over the years, and I think a good starting point is finding a networking group for your specific industry and then going to the meetups.
