Rising Stars: Meet Sade Garrett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sade Garrett.

Sade Garrett

Hi Sade, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In May of 2021, I decided to open my first business called Sade’s Closet. It was a women’s boutique with clothes, shoes, purses and sunglasses. I started the business because I’ve always had a passion for style and fashion. I always took pictures in clothing way before I started the business. I wanted to start a business primarily because I wanted to uplift and encourage women to be unapologetically themselves. I wanted it to be known that it didn’t matter if you wore top brands or clothes from the thrift store. What mattered most was how you wore it. How you carry yourself in confidence in knowing who you are.

Soon, I realized that selling my own clothing wasn’t the ideal. Later that year, I started another business called The Big Picture where I would rent out the famous 360 Photobooth that was gaining popularity quickly. I loved events bringing and capturing smiles in moments we love to remember. It started off as a partnership that unfortunately went downhill. As much as I loved to do business with others. I learned that others just doesn’t have the same drive or desires as you. Especially in business. I also learned that what birthed my next venture, event planning, is what I loved the most.

I’ve always been the one in my family to pay attention to detail, bring people together, and have fun. I loved creating the vibes, and I also loved to decorate. I’ve helped with my family members’ baby showers, graduation parties, and more.

October of 2022, I held my very first pop-up shop with local vendors in the area to gather, network, and provide their services to the community. It was the best thing I could have ever done in my life. With it almost being a year since I’ve held my first event. I frequently get the question as to when is my next event.

Life has thrown a lot of curveballs my way since I started my clothing business. From having to move out of my first home, losing out on meaningful relationships, and losing my job recently this year, I continue my journey with strength and resilience. No matter how many times I got knocked down, I always got back up and tried again.

I grown up all my life seeing my family struggle daily even to this day. Not following their dreams, settling for what they can get and barely getting by. Working a 9-5 wasn’t always a pretty painted picture for me. It helps, but it is definitely not my end goal.

I want to inspire others to go after what they want. Whether that is entrepreneurship or working in a 9-5. I want it to be known that your goals are attainable and that you don’t have to do it alone. I plan to host more events where people of all backgrounds are inspired to take action and receive the support they need. One thing our culture lacks the most is community collaboration. I plan to provide experiences that puts that in the rearview.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any goal you have brings obstacles. Throughout my journey, the main battle I had was my mindset. Trying to depart from my old self to becoming the successful entrepreneur I always dreamed to be. One thing I am truly grateful for and never lacked was support. From family, friends, and my partner they have always supported my ideas.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My work consists of planning. Whether it is a birthday party, networking event, pop-up shop, or even travel. I specialize in creating events that inspire others to want to do more. I am mostly known for my passion and willingness to help others.

I am most proud of my consistency through adversity. Facing challenges like uncertain friendships, temptation, and doubt. I am very passionate and detailed about my work and how it could help others. I pride myself in not caring about how much money someone or makes from what they do. I am more interested in the impact my creativity can bring to the world.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Sacramento is a city of many things. What I like best about Sacramento is the artists and creators that create spaces for others to explore their own ideas, art, and interests. We have so much talent in the city that it brings light.

What I like the least is the lack of compassion. Some are just looking for their next big gig or prematurely thinks that they are too good for where they came from. I also don’t like that there are so many homeless in the city. There are great nonprofits out there that are working in His light. Shoutout to All Things Indie Kicks for Kids and Outside the Walls for serving the community with clothes and food.
