Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Keveisha Farmer.
Dr. Farmer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I come from humble beginnings. I am originally from a small, two-stop light little town in South Georgia. In this town, life is slow, easy, and stress-free. I have to drive 20 miles in order for my cell phone to have service!… Everyone knows everyone. My parents were in the military, so at a young age, we moved away. I have lived in many places, such as Europe and Asia, but lived the longest in Colorado Springs, CO. I went to high school there and began my college journey there. I began at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, majoring in Biology. Once I got married in 2012, I transferred to an HBCU, Norfolk State University (NSU), and completed my Bachelors of Science in Biology. Before I transferred to NSU, I wanted to become a pharmacist. Medicine and healing has always interested me.
One day I saw a commercial for “Nexium”- the purple pill- and the commercial was super long. All I heard were the side effects that this particular medication had, and I thought to myself, “There must be a better way. A natural way.” Come to find out, there was, and there was a whole world of natural and alternative medicine that I never knew existed. I can recall being a little girl and my grandma giving me “natural, backwoods” type of treatments. However, I did not know there was a profession dedicated to natural healing. I spent hours reading and became engulfed in the world of Naturopathic Medicine.
At the time, my husband was in Norfolk, VA, and he received orders to San Diego, CA. I knew that it was a divine alignment. The Naturopathic Medical school that I wanted to attend was located in Washington state, and they had just opened up a satellite campus in San Diego, CA. One year after we moved to San Diego, I began my journey to become a Naturopathic Doctor. I attended a rigorous, intense, fulfilling, challenging, Naturopathic Doctoral program at Bastyr University, San Diego. The world of Naturopathic Medicine is so multifaceted, and we learned about stimulating the body to heal, treatment with herbs, chiropractic care, treating with water, natural remedies, managing medications, assessing, diagnosing, treating- the whole shebang! This was the perfect meeting of nature and science. In December of 2020, I became Dr. Keveisha Farmer N.D., aka Dr. K.
My entire life, I have always been a lady of faith and was aware of my spirit. To me, the Spirit has always been critical in all parts of life. While going through the Naturopathic program, I knew that I wanted to specialize in Spiritual care. The state of someone’s spirit will tell you everything that you need to know, to help them heal. The Spirit speaks before the mouth opens and is very sacred. In Naturopathic Medical School, they do not offer any information about spirituality. It has to be something that is INNATE to you. You can’t wake up one day and say, “Hey, I want to help someone spiritually today”. It must be a calling. It is nothing to play with when dealing in the matters of someone’s spirit. To assist in making spirituality more palatable, I became a Certified Spiritual Life Coach (CSLC)
For that reason, I founded my small business- INNATE- A Spiritual Healing Space. It’s a place for your mind, body, and spirit.
I want to clear any ambiguities that exist regarding spirituality- It is merely the study of yourself and your connection to everything around you.
It is the deep, subconscious diving into yourself to surface your beliefs. It is “blueprinting” your traumas so that you may heal them. The subconscious is the part of you that is connected to the Universe. Whatever you believe about yourself is stored in the subconscious. Oftentimes, with clients, I have realized that they hold negative, unbeknownst beliefs about themselves that are very apparent in life. Only when you know what you believe can you make some changes. When we experience trauma, we form negative beliefs about what happened and store it in our subconscious. Once it is stored there, we project it into life. At INNATE, we provide a safe space to spiritually heal- whether it be energetically or mentally- so that you can optimize your life’s full potential. I also have a line of spiritual, herbal teas called “Ancestral Blends”. They help with spiritual aspects of rest, immunity, and detoxing. More are coming soon!
And this is where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is a natural ebb and flow of life. To get to where I am, I have ridden the rollercoaster. Being a mom, wife, student, doctor, healer, business owner (all of my human roles), there are always lessons to understand then you get to advance in life . All of the lessons in all facets of life involve the sacrifice of time. – Time spent worrying, working, wondering, upset, down, building, learning, surrendering- you insert the verb—
I keep myself grounded as best as I can. In that space, I can be aware of my perspective. When I guard my mind’s wonder and keep my eye on the prize, the lessons don’t take me down.
One thing I know, deep within my core, being, and essence is- “what is meant for me will NEVER pass me by.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
