Meet Sharay McCain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharay McCain.

Sharay McCain

Hi Sharay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Most people would say I started modeling “late” in life, in comparison to when most do, but I think I started right when I should have. For so many years, I was busy living up to others’ standards of what they thought my life should be like. I had always wanted to be a model, but I was always told I was too this or that. What really made me decide I was no longer going to listen to the opinion of others was my time in the military. I had told myself when if I make it back from deployment, I’m going after everything I’ve ever wanted. And so, that’s how I started my career and fell in love with the industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! I wouldn’t change a thing about the journey, but it’s certainly been difficult. My biggest battle has been having to face rejection, and sometimes it’s constant rejection. The thing about the industry is that you’re not always going to be for every brand or every role. I struggled deeply with that in the beginning of my career. Now, I realize how much that very thing has taught me; I always adapt and overcome.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time student studying communications, TV, media, and Arabic. While also modeling as often as I can! My true love is being in front of the camera. My biggest brand campaigns to date have been Kim Kardashians SKIMS and ColourPop Cosmetics. I love all of my modeling jobs. No matter how big or small I’m grateful every day for my work. I am most proud of who I am internally, my morals, and my kind heartiness. Everything else is second to that. I think what sets me apart from others, work-wise, is my time management skills. I am always early. On-time is late! That’s actually something I pride myself on. After that, I’d say my ability to be a diverse model for whatever the client is looking for.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory would have to be moments with my dad. We would ride our bikes down the road to an old railroad. I named it the Train Track Club, and we would carve our names in the trees. I would even collect the old rusty nails sometimes, but I was never allowed to take them home. I remember those being the perfect summer Saturday mornings.
