Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Cerutti.
Hi Mimi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’m so thankful for the opportunity to share my story here since things have changed so much for me this year. At 45 years old, I feel like I’m finally finding my stride and my sweet spot in life! It’s never too late, my friends!
My career path has been a long and windy one. I spent most of my younger years as a stay-at-home mom raising my 5 kids and didn’t think much about what I would do as they got older. It was only about 12 years ago that I set out to discover who I am and what I want outside of being a mom.
Although my path and focus have changed a few times over the years, there has been one common thread through most of my pursuits, and that has been food.
It all started when my son was diagnosed with epilepsy, and I dove deep into a mission to better my family’s health. I got certified in nutrition and learned so much. As my kids got older, I began helping women/moms with their health, and I have practiced women’s nutrition on the side for the past several years.
As life would have it, though, personal circumstances led me to a corporate marketing job that I worked for 5 years. While I’m thankful for all that I learned at that role, it wasn’t my passion, and it led me to burn out in May of this year. While that was an extremely stressful time for me, it also led me to some important truths to follow.
Now, I know that I am meant to be an entrepreneur. I am meant to be navigating and creating a career that lights me up, not losing myself while grinding for someone else’s dream.
I started Cerutti Charcuterie in 2021 when I stumbled upon a talent that I didn’t know I had. I created a charcuterie board for a dear friend’s going away party, and everyone loved it so much that I started making them for friends & family. I was having so much fun that things evolved into getting licensed, permitted, and insured so that I could operate with legitimacy and safety for anyone that I wanted.
Things grew fast, and within a year, I became exhausted and overwhelmed while running that on the side of my corporate job. At the time, I let fear get in my way and chose to let my charcuterie business fall to wayside, at least for a little while, until only months later when things at my corporate job fell apart, and it was time to go.
The light bulb moment hit, and from that moment, I decided to dive into Cerutti Charcuterie full-time in August. While this feels like the biggest leap that I’ve ever taken, and things are still getting going, I can say that I’m happier on my career path than I’ve ever been.
I absolutely love what I get to create with food for people’s celebrations. My belief in what’s possible for my business now is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I feel that belief is the power and the energy that is going to create my next level of success as an entrepreneur, and I’m seriously in love with this chapter of my life!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, it has been anything but smooth. I think that figuring out what I want to do for a living has been one of the most challenging pieces of my journey.
When you spend most of your life raising kids, your own purpose isn’t always so clear. I’ve had to become relentless and willing to get to know myself newly.
That is what the last 10+ years have been for me. I have been humbled by my own messiness and uncertainty. I’ve had to continue to believe in myself and that there is something out there for me that I can enjoy doing with my life.
I’ve also had to learn to believe in my own ability to be successful. I was raised in an environment of deep scarcity, and being financially abundant was never something that was modeled to me.
I have overcome a deep-rooted belief that success and money were always going to be a struggle. I believe now that business ownership and success are, yes, a lot of work, but can also be a lot of fun and deeply fulfilling.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
