Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Tassinari.
Hi Jessi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m often referred to as “the dog whisperer” of the North Shore–not self-titled, titled many times by others, and it’s the best compliment I could ever receive!!! I started my journey with dogs in the womb; I have had dogs all my life, then began working around them in 3rd grade when my mom entered the dog industry.
Throughout my 18+ years of experience working with dogs in various settings: dog daycare, one-on-one training, group training, animal shelters, various rescue organizations, pet insurance, and pet retailers, I developed a fascination with the canine mind, learning process, and evolution and development alongside humans.
I truly cannot imagine doing anything else, as this is clearly my calling. My heart and soul are devoted to dogs and all animals, large and small.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road has been as smooth as a cobblestone road. If sarcasm isn’t your thing, goodness no–it has been a whirlwind. The biggest struggle was believing in myself to even do it in the first place, which somehow, I worked up the gall to just throw myself into the ring in 2021. When I started, I can tell you even with school, internships, and a business degree to boot, I had not a thread of a clue what I was doing. I just started winging it and trusting my expertise. I’m so glad I did because I have created something no one can ever take away from me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Think Like a Dog, LLC?
What sets Think Like a Dog Training apart from others is my extensive empathy and understanding of dogs. I communicate with them in every way, shape, and form–emotionally, spiritually, physically, cognitively, psychologically–all the things. There are people who like dogs, and there are people who are “dog people.” I’m the latter. It took me a while to learn that I have a gift that others may not, which is the ability to connect with animals. I can’t tell you how many times I have been warned about a dog not being friendly or being standoffish with strangers, and the dog instantly licks my face and climbs on me, and we are instant BFFs. Nearly every time. I don’t say this to brag, I say this to show the gift I have and how grateful I am to have discovered that dogs were not just my “career”, they are my destiny.
My brand is all about making dog parents quite literally think like their dog, hence the name! I want people to be able to put themselves in their dog’s shoes (paws) and see from their perspective how they view the world.
My main fundamentals are:
Education: illustrating how your dog learns, why they do what they do, and how we can use positive association exercises, activities, and processes to facilitate their learning.
Confidence: amplifying the dog’s confidence through respect, constancy, and fun not only deepens your bond but your dog’s overall well-being. Positive association paves the way for success. We will never suppress your dog’s personality or use physical force/domination.
Customization: creating a tailored training plan for each individual dog–no cookie cutters here–and providing you with the tools and knowledge you need for daily progress.
